Anti-rattle spring clip

How important is the anti-rattle spring clip? This is what they call the part on the Haynes Service Manual. It clips into both the inside and outside brake pad and basically pushes the two parts away from the rotor. I managed to break both clips on the front left brake pad during a rotor replacement. Will it hurt me to ride without these clips? Judging by the name the part doesn't sound very important but I'm sure it was designed in there for a reason. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't had the clips on my Max since I've had it, and it's likely they haven't been on there for a very long time. No abnormal wear, or anything indicative of a problem.

The lack of these clips or the clips being worn out can cause the brakes to make noise, most typically a squeel.
