Brake squeal when reversing

After watching my nephew change his own brakes, I decided to do the same for mine and was very proud of.

One thing is that everytime I back up slowing with brakes applied the squeal can be worse than a step on cat's tail whine.

I didn't have this before and yes I did use anti-squeal on pads.

You fix that by "combat parking." lol, just kidding.

I had that problem on my 4th Gen on 2 separate occasions. The first time I forgot to clean the crap off my new rotors, the second time I was lazy and just sprayed some brake squeal eliminator on them and did a few hard stops. Both times I had used the brake gel as well. Hope this helps you cause I know you don't want to go in there again. Good luck.

Did you use your stock pad shims?

Shims >> anti squeal goo

If the pads have mosture on them it will do that. Once the pads get broken in a little this should go away. I have had the same problem when installing new pads, it should go away after a few days of driving.

holymoly, I know what you are talking about they sound really bad when you back up for the first few days, it goes away quickly. The pad has to "seat" itself to the rotor that happens after driving for a few days.

should I wait a few more days....

I just noticed, did you install the shims from the old pads or install new shims? If noise continues to a degree where it still bothers make sure you install shims. I know some pads have shims already attached but if you keep having noise issues you need to add shims, most auto parts stores carry them. The shims are specific to the Maxima pads, they are not universal, I only had to add shims to my front pads the back ones were OK. The shims are more of an issue for normal braking noise and not the backing up issue.

Totally Chronic problem on the 4th Gen. Nissan makes a revised pad retainer for "moaning" when backing up in reverse.See service bulletins. I have them installed on my car with all OE shims and the damn rear brakes still moan from time to time. Anything but original brake pads will moan moan moan.

Yea wait a few more days, lol. Mine only make that moaning noise in reverse if there is moisture on the pads such as very humid day or right after a car wash, goes away quickly.

check the bolts on the torque member.

I had this problem in my beater car, and I saw I had a loose bolt in the caliper braket (which I still think the shop that aligned the car set me up)

Thanks for your input Concord, but these are my third replacement with Wagner organic pads, definitely not OE,

The bolt on the caliper, maybe...

I was referring to a moaning/squealing pad noise, not a noise caused by improper installation . If everything is installed correctly then what I described is what you got.
