New front shocks...

Just installed a new set of KYB GR2s and new KYB strut mounts. Installation went smooth since I found and printed a few articles from this site. The most time consuming time was spent wrestling with the spring compressor so it wouldn't interfere with the top spring cap. Air tools are a definite must!!!! After everything was replaced, the spring wrapping noise disappeared. Just had the front end aligned. The mechanic said that it wasn't too far out of alignment. I must say, car drives ALOT better!!!

Congrats! Suspension is definitely the most rewarding upgrade, IMO.

Spring compressors are fun, aren't they? I used a ratchet for the passenger's side spring compressor and it took me a good 4 hours. Discovered we had an impact gun downstairs and the driver's side took an hour and a half.

I did my front shocks with tokico illuminas and the red tokico lowering springs and I here a clanking noise and I feel that the spring is not being held tight enough so there is a clanking noise like its loose. Not loose enough to come off but loose enough to make a clattering noise. Anybody had this problem. Also I have all the necessary bump stops and boots and parts. It is that the spring compressor was not needed and so I feel that the springs are like too short but I like the ride height I just do not like the noise.???

It's funny that you mentioned that noise. I thought ALL of the noise disappeared until I drove on a very bumpy road. I still hear a little noise, like some is loose, but not like before I replaced the struts. The old struts were so bad that I could push them in by hand and they would not return!!

What else could be loose that would cause some noise when driving over a bumpy road??

I also put on KYB GR2s in the summer and the car is much tighter, especially over uneven pavement in high speed turns.

are you running stock springs? You don't get that boat feel when driving on a bumpy highway?

I have the exact set up installed and i love it. When i got it first done with my friends i had the exact same problem but we figured out what it was and now its quiet as hell. First make sure EVERYTHING is torqued down including the top nut and if the rubber assembly that you can see from your hood is cracked or broken that will be the major cause of it. I didn't have mine torqued down and my strut assembly was old and broken so i had the same issues, the torquing solved a lot of it but i heard sounds when hitting any rough bumbs until i replaced that assembly and now you won't even know its there.
