My key broke

The place where a key ring would go broke because it was split in half to put the key on a key ring easier which was a dumb ****ing idea by Nissan. I had a 97 Max before this one and it wasn't split.

Can I drill a hole in the key? I read a long time ago that it might have a chip in it. Does it? If it does is there any room on the key to drill a hole without drilling through the chip?

It's the 99 style key.

It's not fancy. It's just a stupid design.

They are going to charge me at least $100 to cut me a new key. I know for a fact they cant fix the key. It's not like they can weld me the two pieces that broke off.

If I go to say... Home Depot can they make me a working copy that STARTS the car? I went before for a different car but the key wouldn't start car and it just opened the doors.

This 99 key has a chip in it or so I heard so I guess I'll have to buy a new one from Nissan. They are going to rape me.

as far as going to home depot is concerned, they can cut you a new key, but to be able to start the car you would have to have that other chipped key within range of the sensor to start the car.

That sucks. If I leave the key in the car so I can start it with the copy it will probably get stolen. I cant even be in down town Atlanta for 10min without someone eye balling the car.

I'll do it anyway thou. I'll hide the original some place.

Just put your original key somewhere in the stearing column (take it apart and hide the key inside) and use a copy. The chip will be in range since the key is in the stearing column.

And your immobilizer security system will never work, making it easy for any thief to simply hot wire and drive your car away.

They dont have to hot wire anything.

It's manual you can push start it but the ignition has to be turned half way.

I feel your pain on this one. I got excited when I saw my local wal-mart advertising they could cut chipped keys, but only for gm and honda. the only real way to do it correctly is spend the bucks at the dealer and get a new key. It sucks, but it's the only true way to fix the problem.

This happened to my aunt. I fixed it by splitting the casing open, and carving out holes/notches where the previous arch went. Then I bent a paper clip into the holes/notches and made an arch. Then I just popped it back together.

GL with what ever you do.

Go to Ace Hardware or any other place that cuts keys and buy one of those plastic covers that fit over keys. That way you won't have to leave your key in the car or do anything else that you are uncomfortable doing.

You could probably buy one of these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-19...spagenameZWD1V , pull that chip out, and replace it with the one from your broken one. It the blue part kinda sticking out. You should be able to pry it out pretty easy and then glue it into the new one?

ha-HAW!

jk...

same thing happened to my remote. but what i did was take the female side of tiny side release buckle and filled it with plastic glue and attched it to the remote...

sanded the glue down smooth and then spray painted semi-flat back on it...

it works.
