Hey I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima and I have 17" rims on it. I installed some Tein S-Techs with KYB GR2 Shocks and Struts. Im not really satified with the drop. What springs have the biggest drop for our car without having to do coilovers?

 

S-Techs or Sprints. I wouldn't recommend going any lower, but you must get Tein Basic coilovers.

 

What do you mean by not satisfied? The S-Techs are 2.2F 1.8R and are the lowest you can go without getting coilovers as said by NightRider. Sprints are 2.0F 2.0R but wouldnt make a huge difference unless you want an even drop.

 

yeah man those are the lowest you can go for a spring before going to coilovers. going lower than that i dont really recommend unless you like replacing axles frequently.

 

Geez, they are not low enough for you? I guess you don't drive in crappy areas.

 

No I drive in crappy areas...RI stay away from some parts of it lol its just some people look at it and there like wait your car is lowered? Some people dont know its lowered sometimes and its weird how sometimes it looks lower then other times

 

What is your wheel/tire combo, most namely, size of tire.

If you just got them installed just wait for them to start sagging a lil. The GR2's will probably blow in a a lil over a year also. Good luck, and trust everyone telling you. S-Techs are low enough.

 

+1 on the GR-2's. It's not meant to handle that low of a drop. knock on wood

How low of a drop can you do with the GR-2. I just installed some and now want to lower my car. I was looking at H&R. Any comments?

When did you put them in? I've been told that sometimes it takes a bit of time for the car to settle to its final drop height (if someone could verify this, that'd be great)... and it might just be the placebo effect, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened to mine. My ride seems slightly lower than when I first put my new struts/springs in.

 

I installed the shocks and struts last year in like late 06' also I have 17" ADR rims with 225/50/17 or 225/55/17 I forgot

 

Nevermind then, it's been long enough :P

 

I wish there was a lower drop spring as well..

Im on S techs with 17" 350z alloys (225/50/17).. looks similar to stock height on some other sports cars =(

A sports CAR is either RWD or AWD. Period. The G35 is both.

 

Celicas are fwd.. supposedly sports cars...

 

Poser sports cars like any other FWD coupe like the Eclipse and whatever else.

They call it a "sports car" for marketing the car to the ignorant crowd that doesn't know what a sports car should be.

The coupe G35 can be considered a "sports car" but not the sedan...

the point was that you dont own a sports car. so dont try to relate the two...

 

the GR2's are an OEM replacement meaning it's supposed to be used with OEM springs. stiffer lowering springs such as the eibach prokit or H&Rs can be used as well. lower, softer springs have a higher chance to blow the shock due to frequent bottoming out, ie: s-techs.

brand new aftermarket springs do need time to settle and the final drop will be seen. usually takes about a week or so, so don't jump to conclusions so quickly if you've just installed them.

 

there's numerous reasons why they dont make anything lower such as suspension geometry (control arm angle which affects the axles which in turn affects... etc.)

 

what are the best shocks and struts for the s-techs

 

from what i have been reading. gr2s and s-techs? i've seen the tokicos too

 

Tokico Illuminas are the way to go. I love mine to death and you can adjust them easily for your driving style and preference. I like mine to be really stiff so i hold mine at 4 front and 3 at the back.

 

ha nope....just another black 4th gen.

 

tokico's are hardly stiff at all. im at 5front with 450lb/in and 5 rear with 350lb/in and its not as stiff as i thought itd be. handling is decent but still bouncy. the dampening just isnt enough. the best strut for the maxima would be the Koni Yellow hands down. switching to Koni's soon

 

I heard that really depends on the spring, mine is not bouncy at all at 4/3 and its paired with the Tokico springs.

 

I definally have S-techs and yea on a cold morning my front struts make some noise i dont know why but they do and Im goingto replaced my shocks and struts and maybe go with koni

 

I'm on S-techs, they looks cool but ride sucks. No more mix and match for me, if I change this setup it will be with coilovers.
