Knock off OEM Nissan Mufflers

I bought my 1999 max 1 year ago from a guy who took extremely good care of it. It had 65000 miles on it and the original muffler and B-pipe rusted out about 2 years ago. The muffler and b-pipe were replaced with a OEM Nissan parts most likely installed at a good muffler shop.

Surprisingly i noticed when I went to buy the car the muffler looked slightly different then stock. The muffler was in great shape less then a year old so I didn't think much of it. I've looked at the muffler and it says Nissan on it but I don't think it is.

One year later the thing is rusting from the inside out it is in terrible shape and needs replaced soon.

1. Does anyone know where these mufflers come from? I've heard that nissan sells it's OEM parts plans to chinese companies after 4 or 5 years to save costs so you get the same OEM part made in china instead of Japan. is this true?

2. If I want to buy a new OEM b-pipe/muffler how can i avoid getting this knock off again?

Toss an OEM 5th gen unit. They go for fairly cheap on eBay and on here (classifieds, 65$ in some cases)

I live in Ohio also, I hardly ever had the car out in the snow last year either. About 6 months ago mine also looked brand new and now I'm shocked at the amount of rust. Khantalha does your muffler look just like the stock OEM mufflers that the cars are sold new with?

IIRC I think the OEM unit says Calsonic on it.
