Fixed coolant leak, still runnig hot.

Well, I had a scary ride back from classes the other night. I was overheating trying to manage coolant levels with a bad upper clamp/hose on my radiator. Well we fixed it the yesterday, got a new hose and better clamps, and filled the coolant back up. However, today, I was running hot again. The same temp as I was when my coolant was almost empty in the jug(and a very low idle, 400-500 vs normal 800).

Any ideas? No more leaks. No codes except the MAP/Barro solenoid switch(1302).

Thanks

You may have air in the system or it could be a stuck thermostat. If its air, one way to purge the system of air is to start your car with the heat on full blast, take off your radiator cap and continue to fill the radiator as the air is released. Of course monitor your temperature gauge so as not to let it overheat again. Once you get the air out you should be good, but if that doesn't work then replace the thermostat.

I dunno I doubt it's air, I've had alot of air in them to the point heat didn't work and they still wouldn't overheat.

Verify fans coming on. Replace T-stat.

Yeah I was over heating, misforing from premature ignition.

Ill check for air before I do anything else. Just to make sure, the Tstat wouldnt throw a code, right?

No, it didn't. Resistor mod wouldn't work, IIRC, we don't know the factory spec resistance. Ill check the FSM though.

Low idle and losing water? I wouldn't rule out a blown head gasket. Get a compression test done imo.

I was thinking this as well. Let's hope it isn't a blown head gasket. Has it ever run so hot that it got to a point where smoke coming out? or coolant was being relieved from the overflow bottle?

Let us know how this turns out.

No, Wizard, it has not.

Blown head gasket? Well, I guess it wouldnt be the end of the world if a 3.5 found its way in, now would it?

Ill get a compression test done.

Good. Hopefully it's just a bad thermostat, or some air in the system..

Have you checked that your fans are indeed coming on as stated by KKRZ350??

Yes his fans work, I know first hand.

Head gasket is worth looking into but as far as that goes he has no idication of it, by indication I mean the usual suspects of it.

I think it is air in the system kyle, we will work on this weekend. Did you forget to mention that when you run hot that your MAF seems to stop working as in the no rev past 3,500 rpms.

So we need to clean your MAF, get rid of air in the system, and last if that doesn't work thermostat.

I ran the heater on full blast for 20 minutes on the highway, then 40 more on the way back. Still same operating temperature. Although I did see a drop in coolant level. Thats good, right?

Oh, and I dont want to clean the MAF...its like seafoam, it can do good and bad things.
