oil on spark plugs

changed my spark plugs this weekend and found oil in two of the front spark plugs. to be exact in the middle and right hand side plugs. is a bad ring seal the only thing that could be causing this?

Is the oil on the gap end or on the contact end of the plug? If it's on the white ceramic side of the plug u probably have a leaking tube seal on your valve cover- if your tube seal is leaking then oil from inside of the VC will leak into the sparkplug tube.

I guess it is from spark plug tube seals on valve cover. I had the same problem 2 month ago at the back side of wells. I had to take the intake manifolder collector off to replace the tube seal. I did 5 times the same job because I put the after market tube seal in. I strongly recommand to use OEM seals and gasket. The job is spent about 2~3 hours but it isn't difficult. The front part is much easier than back part.

Here is what you need to do that except tool
1. The new OEM spark plug tube seals whose parts number is 13276-31U10 for 96 I30
($3 each) You should check the part number before you order.
2. New OEM Valve cover gasket
3. ATV silicon from autozone
4. Throttle body cleaner to valve cover.
5. Show towel.

Thanks.

Do what herntm2 said.

I had the same issue on an Eclipse 2.4L and this is what I did to solve it.

When you remove the old seals from valve cover, you have to remember which sides of seal are inside or outside. So if I were you, I will take a picture fisrt.
Thanks.

stupid question, but does the oil on the spark plug threads/ceramic hurt performance? I would assume so, but everyone knows what happens when you assume. please enlighten me
