Upper spring seat question

How important is it that the notch, under where it says "out", line up with the center of the lower shock mount?

i'm having trouble getting it exact. it likes to rotate when i start letting the spring compressors loose.

It should be sorta close. It's a macpherson, so remember the whole thing can rotate at the top anyway.

ok, it is off by about a 1/4 inch at the moment, but i was thinking that part didn't actually rotate, at least it doesn't like to when trying to turn it by hand

If it's just the metal plate holding the top of the spring, it won't rotate. 1/4" is plenty close for that part - it's mostly to get the cut ends of the spring to line up properly.
