Starter Trouble

So after repolacing the old one with a replacement fron Advance....it did not work...all it does is spin in place without coming out and engageing the flywheel. Is there a specific wattage or teeth difference between an Auto and 5-speed??? Is there anything else I might be doing wrong. I checked all the wiring...triple checked the connections and fuses...nothing out of the ordinary. I pushed started the car...so no go on mechanical....electrical....all checked out normal. I know that for the 3rd gens...there is a difference for a stick and auto. Any help fellas...will be appreciated.

I recently replaced my starter. I heard boatloads of stories of autozone/advance/etc. type starters being bad straight off the shelf. They are apperently shoot and miss if they work or not. I was strongly suggested to use OEM starter so I did, and it worked perfect. Used one of a 01 maxima. I suggest you try an oem starter. Also I do not believe there is a difference between 5-spd and auto.
