Top Speeds in Each Gear
What is the top speed for each gear? I remember 1st is 35 and I thought 2nd was 85 but when I tell my friends this they say I am crazy. I tried searching but nothing came up. So what is the top speed in 2nd and 3rd? I'm an auto.

Did a little math and here are the top speeds in each gear (I know you're not going to go 260 in 5th, but if you could hit redline you would )
1st--3.290 63 km/h 39 mph
2nd--1.850 112 km/h 70 mph
3rd--1.272 164 km/h 102 mph
4th--0.950 219 km/h 136 mph
5th--0.800 260 km/h 162 mph
1st--3.290 63 km/h 39 mph
2nd--1.850 112 km/h 70 mph
3rd--1.272 164 km/h 102 mph
4th--0.950 219 km/h 136 mph
5th--0.800 260 km/h 162 mph

He said that hes an auto. Did anyone read the Sport Compact Car where they did the article about the "conspiracy" over transmissions? It's like all cars are designed to shift from 2-3 around 62, thus making the 0-60 times quicker.

i am an auto and in 2nd i have been 75 and that was a little past redline.
in 3rd i have been to like 123/124 a little past 120 on my se gauge again above redline

OK, did a little more math and got these numbers:
1st--2.785 75 km/h 47 mph
2nd--1.545 136 km/h 84 mph
3rd--1.000 210 km/h 130 mph
4th--0.694 302 km/h 188 mph
If the gear ratios are correct (searched for them here), this should be right.

i got this out of the factory service manual
from d1 - d2 at full throttle the shift is at 38-43 mph
from d2 - d3 at full throttle the shift is at 70-75 mph
from d3 - d4 at full throttle the shift is at 110-115 mph
now you can override this buy keeping the shift lever in the selected gear until you want to change or hit the limiter.

Alright, that makes sense. Sorry, I don't know much about automatics, I've only driven one once (driver training - that was awful )
I just got those speeds according to rpms (used 6600), gear ratios, and tire circumfrence.

Are all those top speeds going past the redline? I generally rev right up to the redline on occasion I pass it by a little bit.
These speeds are all right up to the redline
1st gear: 30 mph approx.
2nd gear: 60 mph approx.
3rd gear: 90 mph approx.
Give or take ±2 mph.

I would like to see any of your maxs go 162mph on a stock engine. THat might be the gear ratio calculations, but I seriously doubt the max can go that fast. It doesn' have the power to do so. S/C maybe, NOS maybe. The aerodynamics of the car, I would have to do the math and I can't from where I am at. Would leave the at a terminal velocity in the 150's on a non-modified motor.

I guess those speeds are in an Auto-Medicsonic? But in theory would be a place with out gravity or air, right? I do have a redline question... is the rev limiter set off of my ECU or the needle? I hit it today, and it's at 6700-6800 rpms. I've been told that the limiter is set for 6500rpms. I'm just wondering if my Tach is off a little.

1.)Those are automatics, and are the actual speeds at redline.
2.)Your tach is off. The first time I had my car dynoed, the guy doing it said I was the first car that he had seen in a long time with a dead accurate tachometer, most are off by about 200.
3.)The ECU should be limiting your RPMs.

I was talking about 5-Speed :]. Must be very different on Automatic cars. In any case I've gone around 140 before in 5th gear of course and it was just a little bit below the redline.

OK, I just worked out the speeds with math - it was only supposed to help and not be totally accurate. I am totally aware that a stock maxima cannot go 260 km/h (give me some credit). This is the equation I made - It should be correct, but if anyone finds anything wrong with it, please tell me. Obviously you can simplfy it, but it would be harder to figure out what i was doing. Hopefully I typed this up properly.....it's 2 in the morning now, gotta get some sleep

simplified...
mph = (rpm x tire diameter)/(overall gear ratio x 336)
To get the overall gear ratio, multiply the tranny ratio by the transaxle ratio. 3rd gear in an auto (4th being OD) is most always 1.00 Anyone know each gear ratio, and the transaxle ratio of the max?
Be aware that in automatics, converter slippage will make the engine spin a little faster than the car is actually going. (unless the car is equipped with a lock-up converter, and it is engaged)

in my auto, I would run 41mph in 1st, 82in 2nd, 115 in 3rd..
btw, whoever was talking about the auto conspiracy of shifting at 62mph, the mclaren f1 lm does too, but that is shifting out of 1st, into 2nd ! ! ! ! ! you could run interstate speed in 1st haha ! I love that.
