ECU Upgrades

Is 500 Bucks really worth what you get out of and ECU Upgrade. How much do you really get. I searched for a while and just found that someone did one from JWT but I looked and it was 500 bucks. SO What can you expect for this kind of money. Is it only for Boosted cars mabey or is it good for N/A cars as well.

If it's worth it to you, get it, if not, don't get it. I liked my JWT. It was the most noticeable mod I got aside from the MEVI.

If you plan on using it and doing the tuning it is worth it. If you are more of a bolt on kind of guy then I wouldnt

For some reason, I think you have your thought reversed.

ECU upgrades are generally more on the plug & play side than, say, an Emanage Ultimate. I have a JWT, and it helped out my auto a lot, especially with the 00VI. It was a '96 ECU, and I dropped it in my '95 with no CEL's or ghost codes to this day (props mazzivart). Car also had no problems passing inspection. Still glad that I invested in it. If you have or plan to install a MEVI or 00VI, a JWT ecu w/ extended rev would be a very nice addition.

12-15 ft lbs, 8-12 whp peak. Better feeling car, if you have a VI of some sort, you will REALLY take advantage of the extra revs.

Im sorry i was playing. If he isnt going to install a 00vi or a mevi i would just get a safcII. That way he can adjust with each mod. Also you would want a wideband O2 also.

Yup, that was sorta my point to. If you’re not the ‘tuning’ type of person, and would rather just PnP, then the JWT is the way.

For even the most minor/raw tuning, you will need an AFC/WBO2. Also, if you want to achieve nearly the same results (AFR and added timing), you need all 3 items (AFC/AFPR/WBO2), which, in the end will be in the same ballpark price as the JWT, but without the extended rev limit.

Yea but the adjustability is there. Even if the op isnt a tuner im sure he can find some one to tune for his mods. Yes the JWT would be pnp but can adjust for future mods without a reflash.

JWT 'adjust' for 'added' mods, it's just more of a 'I feel like atuocrossing today' vs 'I feel like 1/4 miler racing today'.

Which, IMO, would be the arguable difference of say 12.5:1 - 13.5:1 AFR. Something the JWT can't do so yeah, you're right in that aspect.

(if he does not already have any of those items)

Personally the ECU would be the very last thing on my list, as such theres only a small window of adjustment for NA cars as opposed to their force fed cousins.

A DE w/ 00VI has more potential for top end power due to its cams. A y-pipe is not as good as equal length headers, no one has back to back comparisons but I have seen 3 dynos that have proven that quality heads WILL give no less than 20 whp from stock. AFR conditioning has become far more prominent in ‘tuning’ this has been seen to have a great impact on power, intake/exhaust on either end (filter/muffler) do not add as much as what’s in the middle (tuning and headers), and of course suspension mods should always bee on top of the list though.

My 03 still has the stock muffler and I still managed 240+whp. Another header'd 03 laid down 230+ w/ the stock intake.

There is a dyno with Joe's car in the dyno forum. one with the warpspeed Y and the other with equal length headers from cattman. He yeilded about 9whp from the cattmans. Although the dyno wasn't done on the same day it still show some improvements in power.

Ive been to lazy to make my plug and play harness for my EU though, so I have been driving with the stock ECU...Still feels good though.

Your best bet is to keep your eyes peeled in the For sale forum....not post your email and number publicly. The JWT ECU's do pop up from time to time. See link for 4th gen For Sale forum.
