ECU Upgrades

ECU Upgrades
Is 500 Bucks really worth what you get out of and ECU Upgrade. How much do you really get. I searched for a while and just found that someone did one from JWT but I looked and it was 500 bucks. SO What can you expect for this kind of money. Is it only for Boosted cars mabey or is it good for N/A cars as well.

ECU upgrades are generally more on the plug & play side than, say, an Emanage Ultimate. I have a JWT, and it helped out my auto a lot, especially with the 00VI. It was a '96 ECU, and I dropped it in my '95 with no CEL's or ghost codes to this day (props mazzivart). Car also had no problems passing inspection. Still glad that I invested in it. If you have or plan to install a MEVI or 00VI, a JWT ecu w/ extended rev would be a very nice addition.

Yup, that was sorta my point to. If you’re not the ‘tuning’ type of person, and would rather just PnP, then the JWT is the way.
For even the most minor/raw tuning, you will need an AFC/WBO2. Also, if you want to achieve nearly the same results (AFR and added timing), you need all 3 items (AFC/AFPR/WBO2), which, in the end will be in the same ballpark price as the JWT, but without the extended rev limit.

JWT 'adjust' for 'added' mods, it's just more of a 'I feel like atuocrossing today' vs 'I feel like 1/4 miler racing today'.
Which, IMO, would be the arguable difference of say 12.5:1 - 13.5:1 AFR. Something the JWT can't do so yeah, you're right in that aspect.

$ well spent elsewhere
Ypipe, DEK, intake/exhaust, suspension
(if he does not already have any of those items)
Personally the ECU would be the very last thing on my list, as such theres only a small window of adjustment for NA cars as opposed to their force fed cousins.

A DE w/ 00VI has more potential for top end power due to its cams. A y-pipe is not as good as equal length headers, no one has back to back comparisons but I have seen 3 dynos that have proven that quality heads WILL give no less than 20 whp from stock. AFR conditioning has become far more prominent in ‘tuning’ this has been seen to have a great impact on power, intake/exhaust on either end (filter/muffler) do not add as much as what’s in the middle (tuning and headers), and of course suspension mods should always bee on top of the list though.
My 03 still has the stock muffler and I still managed 240+whp. Another header'd 03 laid down 230+ w/ the stock intake.

Ive been to lazy to make my plug and play harness for my EU though, so I have been driving with the stock ECU...Still feels good though.
