o2 sensor Question
I have had an on and off check engine light for a while now. I decided to get it checked and the guy at autozone said it was the bank 1 number 1 o2 sensor. He was in a rush and didnt tell me where it was located only that it would cost $119. Where on the exhaust is this located and is that the correct price? I tried searching and found nothing. Thanks

Pull the codes yourself and use this link to read the code.

Bank 1 is the bank near the firewall, and bank 2 is the one near the radiator. Sensor 1 should be the one that is further upstream, sensor 2 being downstream.
Shop around for that sensor. See if you can source one that is "universal." You can splice on your old connector and save a few bucks if you are no stranger to wiring.
Good luck.

It's the one marked "22690" in the picture. Nissan part number 22690-A32B006. Is it on the "rear" bank on the Y-pipe (if you are not turbo, you technically do not have a part called a "down pipe") closest to the manifold.
You are going to have to get under there and look for yourself because sometimes it's not the sensor that is bad, but the wire may be damaged or something. A simple splice or repair of the wire is all you would need in this case. In general, you should always visually inspect something before buying or replacing parts anyways. Rent or buy an O2 sensor tool. It could save you a headache on this job.

bobsbarricades - What was the recall and is this posted anywhere?
Niznos - My bad with the terminology, im used to my other car. I was planning on getting under there when I could. Where I live you get fined $250 for working on your car (thats what I get for buying a condo) so I have to go to friends houses to work on the car. I figured I would have the part ready to save myself a trip, plus it cant hurt to change anyway. I had to get the car inspected by today so I was just trying to save time. I just figured if it was a wire problem it wouldnt clear its self after a couple hundred miles.
ps - I passed inspection so I guess this can wait till its warmer. Thanks for the help.

I have a OBD code reader, which allows you to reset codes to see if they persist or is just a one time occurrence. I received the same code you did reset it, then it came back on. I reset it again since it's a high mileage vehicle (235000 miles), then the check engine light never reappeared.
No check engine light, no problem.
I have an Actron which I use for my BMW as well.

I ordered a new Y pipe and Cat from Warpspeed. should I just go ahead and install both front 02 sensors now, or re-install the old ones? No codes and no indication they are not working.

There is no good reason to replace a part that isn't bad. As much as the auto parts industry would have you believe you should replace it at a certain mileage, the OBD II does a good job of finding fault on the sensor if it needs to be replaced. Otherwise, use it until it fails. Oxygen sensors are not that hard to replace in and of themselves. If it were really difficult to get to, I could see doing them while you got it out, but this isn't the case here.

seems like there is a split opinion on this one! For what it's worth, the guy at the Nissan parts department said don't replace them unless you get a code. The guy at the muffler shop said replace them to prevent damage to the cat. I think I like the if it aint broke don't fix it answer.
Thanks guys!
