Bad Coil Pack Symptoms
Bad Coil Pack Symptoms
Last night i started my 99 max after it sat all day. Started runninng bad. Then the CEL came on and eventually started flashing. I did not get a chance to pull the codes yet, but i just wanted to see what the syptoms of a bad coil pack was or if something else could make the CEL flash besides a miss fire. THanks.
just to update this thread, I checked all the coils with an OHM meter all registered within spec. So i then started pulling plugs, the first one i pulled (cylinder 1) was wet and smelled like gas. Pulled others and they were all dry and white, so i figured my bad coil pack was on cylinder 1. I went to autozone and got a replacement, car runs like a champ again! BTW, all of my original 162,400 miles coils were Hanshin (except for the replacement duralast one now) Thanks for the help org!

Same But Different Problem
Had an SES light in my '99 Max GLE. Took to Autozone, my #4 cylinder was misfiring. Took to Nissan. Nissan estimated $1070.00 parts and labor, said mutliple coils were bad. So I ordered Airtex coils from RockAuto.com. Installed them all, the only problem is my electrical connectors do not mate properly with the right side (rear) coils. Sockets on the coils are too deep and will not allow the connectors to lock in place. Am discussing with Airtex and RockAuto tomorrow morning, will let you know what i found out.
Since #4 cylinder is front center, car runs fine now with three new coils up front and old coils in rear. Question is, if I can't get Airtex coils to fit my electrical connectors on rear, any harm done by having two different coils (manufacturers) in the car?
Another question, while the misfire was occuring, i heard a noise around my muffler area that sounded like aluminum cans being pulled behind the car. Thought I was going to have to change the muffler or catalytic converter. However noise does not occur since changing the coils. Does this make sense?
Regards!
