changing rotors
changing rotors
I need to replace my brake pads and rotors and am thinking of doing it myself. The instructions for changing the pads seem straightforward enough, but how much trouble is it to change the rotors? Also, is it stupid to attempt this myself. Anybody have experience doing this procedure?
You have to remove the caliper from it's mounting bracket to get the rotor off. You don't have to remove the brake line, but don't let the rotor hang from it; use a piece of coat hanger and hang it from the strut spring. The rear rotors may be stuck on the axle hubs, but they have 2 drilled and tapped holes to help removal. Just thread the proper size bolts into the holes and they will push the rotors off of the hubs. After you are finished, spray the rotors down with brake parts cleaner.
