Alarm system

Ok, so the person I bought my 97 GXE from apparently had two alarm systems installed on it....one was the default Nissan one which is the one I am using right now, has a black remote with lock, unlock, trunk open, and panic buttons. However, it doesn't make any "noise" when I lock or unlock. I would like to turn on the noise. Secondly, the person who I bought it from had installed a secondary alarm system onto the car by a manufacturer named Clifford I believe and I have the manual too. And that has its own remote. All I basically want to do is turn on the noise (which he turned off cause i think he said on the Clifford alarm system, it was sensitive to vibrations and in huge thunderstorms, it would go off so they shut it off). So right now, I believe the Clifford one is off, and teh default Nissan one is on...does anyone have experience with this? How would I turn on the noise for the default Nissan one? Is it worthit activating the Clifford one?

Well w/ the stock alarm, your bumper lights and tails should flash twice when hitting the lock botton on your remote. There is a way for you to make your stock alarm beep instead, here is the link.

Yes, my default alarm makes the lights flash twice when I lock it. However, there is a panic button on the remote...why would the default remote have the panic button if it doesn't even beep? I thought the purpose of panic was to....make a lot of noise and have the lights flash.

Also, something weird...if I click the Unlock button once and hold it down, BOTH my front windows start going down. If I hold it down long enough, the front windows will come down all the way. If I let go, they will stop whenever I let go. What the hell is this?

the nissan factory alarm stock features are when you lock your doors the tail lights flash. there is no beep to turn on unless you do a mod such as the link.

if you hold the unlock button the front windows roll down. thats just how it is.

thats what the hell it is. your crap is working the way its suppose to.

i think for the panic button to work you need to hold it...

Yeah the front windows going down is supposed to be a "Upscale" perk.

Comes in handy on hot summer days when u need the heat to escape before you get in..

just whatever you do dont reach inside to unlock the door. still unlock from the outside.

Everything about your stock alarm is working properly, your hazards should flash 2 times when the car is armed. If you hold the unlock button for 2 seconds the two front windows are supposed to roll down (a feature I really like). Finally, hold the panic button for 2 seconds and it will activate...

Your car's alarm is working properly, what is the problem?

I think he's used to alarms where the car beeps instead of the lights flashing, which the vqpower page shows how to do. As for everything else, its working just like its supposed to. Personally I like to f*k with people with the panic button when they walk by my car and they cant tell where its coming from

if your clifford remote is an aftermarket alarm, im sure it was simply unplugged or put into valet mode to disable the alarm. read up in your manual that you said you might have and learn how to take it out of valet mode, or you might need to simply plug it back in. if that is the case, im sure its already set up to arm and disarm your factory security system already.

Yea my parents have a 2004 Sienna XLE and a Volvo S80 and they both make like a beep noise AND the flashing lights when I lock. So, you're saying if I do hit the panic button, my car will make noise?

sodie, yeah the guy I bought the car from said the Clifford was already all installed and set up, I think it's just disabled. So I have to figure out how to disable the factory one and turn on the aftermarket one.

Also, why does the Maxima randomly have this feature where the front windows drop? I have NEVER heard of this feature before lol. I don't think my dad's upscale Volvo even has it....

OK, lets clear some things up again:
On the stock Maxima remote
- Pressing the big blue lock button will lock all the doors and blink the turn signals twice, it WILL NOT make any noise
- Holding the panic button for 2 seconds will make your car start honking its horn, which you can turn off by pressing the lock button
- Windows opening is not a random feature. I know for a fact that there are other cars that have the same or similar features, downside is that windows can not be closed using the remote (to my knowledge)

you could have figured all of this out if you just tried all the buttons on the remote yourself

Haha icaghost, I know, I just haven't found a suitable place to turn on the panic. Maybe next time in a store parking lot lol. Anyways, how do I go about disabling the default Nissan alarm and activating the Clifford one? Does anyone here have experience with the Clifford brand? Is it decent?

Can't answer how to specifically disable the Nissan alarm...... but I can tell you that Clifford is a decent alarm. I have a couple cars with Clifford alarms, and have had no issues with them. Of course, a lot of it has to do with proper installation........

How long did you hold the panic button down??? 2+ seconds??

If it doesn't work, then chances are whoever installed your Clifford alarm traced and cut the specific wire. Having the Clifford siren and the OEM horns go off at the same time would sound bad.

Why are you so concerned with having the OEM alarm work properly, and every function to work? Doesn't the Clifford have a panic? Can't the Clifford open your doors/trunk for you?? Having two alarms only complicates things.

If your still confused, call the person you bought the car from and ask specific questions. Only he and the installer who did the Clifford know what's what.

if you can get your Clifford alarm enabled, you shouldnt need to "disable" the nissan security system....the clifford should do it automatically. our system can easily be dissabled and enabled by any aftermarket keyless entry system. so even just keyless entry that locks and unlocks your doors CAN disarm your security system when you unlock the doors as well as arm your factory security system when you lock your car back up.
