HELP!!! Bad knock sensor
I work 14 plus hours a day and don't have time to research this problem on the org, let alone repair it myself. My 99's with 170K miles check engine light came on and started flashing continously. I had to get it towed to the dealership. Upon scanning it, they found a knock sensor code. This is a code that has been interminently coming on and off for the last year or so. Last time the light came on. The codes were the KS and Catalytic Converter code. I replaced the cats so no problems until now. I also had to replace both upstream O2s later that year. My question is, can a faulty KS cause a driveability issue? Also, the estimate for the repair is $900.00. That seems kinda high.
How labor involved is it? The IM has to come out I know. Maybe 3 to 4 hours labor to R&R the KS plus the part. Need your help with this one guys...

the knock sensor from nissan is about 170 bucks dont know why there asking that much then again it is the dealer. the knock sensor is one little magnet held on with one clip and a 12mm bolt i believe. Not completely sure about that but i know it is in a tight spot to get to but with about 20 to 30 minutes and some patience it is an easy fix by yourself. Its located under the intake manifold. And if you choose not to take it off to get to it be prepared to get cut a little trying to stick your hand down there to replace it. It is a very tight spot.

its $125 from dave burnette at south point.
and get a kid or a girl with small wrists to help you. its cake.
now the CEL flashing means misfire i think. the CEL woudlnt come on from just the knock sensor. you need to find out what ELSE is causing it to pop.

Anyone ever use those Mechanics gloves while doing this? I have a pair that I've used at times and really like them. I bought them about a size too small so they are easy to manuver. Just a thought, plus, they are tacky and make it easy to pick things up.
