So I installed my clutch and flywheel...<PLZ help>

Just for argument sake, I'm also searching through the forum to figure out whats going on but:

I installed my Fidanza flywheel and my F1 clutch yesterday.. Took 14 hours.. I also replaced the axle seals, resealed the upper oil pan and rear main, and refinished both mating surfaces of the engine and transmission. I used Royal Purple gear oil in the trans.

Now the problem, when taking off in first gear the clutch(or throw out bearing) will sound like its whining. Its very similar sounding to a power steering whine. The car will also shake when I engage the clutch to shift from 2nd up and it will shake even worse downshifting. In 5th gear at around 45mph I can hear some rotational noise on the passenger side.

Like I said, I'm also searching the forum for clutch chatter and such but any help here would be much appreciated.

Yea you are going to have chatter now. The whining is normal from what i have heard at least and the chatter is there to stay.

Did you clean the flywheel and pressure plate with solvent? Is the clutch brand new?

In any case, chatter doesn't usually get better. I put up with a chatterish ACT st 1 for about a year before I finally changed it. Resurfaced the flywheel, cleaned it all with solvent, NO fingerprints, and now it's smooth like buttah.

yeah i cleaned the pressure plate and the flywheel extensively before putting them on. the clutch came as a kit and yes it was new. after driving for about 150 miles some of the chatter has gone away and its starting to feel a lot smoother.

Cool

When mine started shuddering I hoped and prayed it would get better. It didn't. Hope your luck continues. Buy some powerballs while you're hot.

SO IS IT THE FLYWHEEL CAUSING THE CHATTER OR THE CLUTCH? REASON I ASK ( SORRY IF IM THREAD JACKING) I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN OEM EXEDY CLUTCH KIT WITH PRESSURE PLATE AND LIGHT WEIGHT ALUMINUM FLYWHEEL FOR MY THIRD GEN AND AM A BIT CONCERNED ABOUT THIS VIBRATION AND CHATTER I HEAR IS EMINENT FROM THE SETUP. IS IT THE FLYWHEEL OR CLUTCH CAUSING THE ISSUE? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

there should be no chatter in any clutch that has a sprung hub....If the disc is a solid hub you will get chatter no matter how hard you try. A flywheel will not give you chatter unless its warped.

^^^^ Say what mate? "A flywheel will not give you chatter unless it's wrapped" ???? What does that mean? Our flywheels are not "wrapped" as you say, with anything - well ... the timing ring maybe. But a clutch will give you chatter from time to time.

To the OP'r ... I just did my clutch (rebuilt my 5sd) and I had a little chatter when hitting 1st in a downshift or if I took it up to around 5k or so in 1st, other than that ... no problem. It's getting better the more I drive it, I think this clutch now has about 700 miles or so on it. Might make sure your slave is extending fully as well. (check your fluid level) Another thing you may try is to re-torque your bell housing bolts (both from and to the trany). I hope it gets better .... keep us posted.

I had a similiar problem. The chatter went away with time. Its a common problem for aftermarket throwout bearing to go bad... you may check that. Its best to purchase new bearing from Nissan. Other than that, give it some time and see if itll disappear with time. it should

let me go find the post where I told you "DO NOT USE THE F1 CLUTCH BECAUSE IT WILL CHATTER HORRIBLY AND EVENTUALLY YOU WILL DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN"

It will get better for a short time, but than it will get bad, REAL bad, to the point you won't want to pick up girls in your car. Ask '99blackmaxms, he drove my car with the F1 chatterbox at it's later stage in life, common matt, tell him how bad it will get.........

I tried to tell you, exactly what happened to me.

Oh, here it is...........

Sorry to hear man, but it could always be worse.

Its not that I didn't believe you, you told me it would ruin the fidanza but not why or how.. Gripforce gave me **** when I tried to return it so I said **** it....

I tried to buy an OE throw out bearing but they didn't have them in stock and I didn't have time to wait for one to be ordered..

Now I have a charging problem..

I followed some advice and resurfaced the mating surfaces of the block and transmission before bolting them back together, all my connections are tight at the starter, battery, altinator, etc but the battery isn't charging and went dead on me on my way home tonight.. It really sucks being stuck on the highway with a dead car and no one up (cause its 4am) to come get you...
Anyway, I replaced the starter a few months ago and I have an Optima Redtop battery. I checked connections again tonight and everything is tight. I was going to replace the altinator in the morning. And yes the car is still sitting on the side of the road until I fix it anyway..
