Worth the risk?

There is a 96 maxima that is being sold locally and I wanted to get your opinions on it. I have not seen the car yet. But it is a 96 maxima for $1500, it has 155k miles on it. Its black on black leather. I had a 96 maxima before current one but I totaled it. He says there is a small dent on the front bumper and the paint is in decent shape, and the radio display doesn't work but the radio does. Now the main issue he says is it does not go above 2500k RPM. He says it may be a cut off MAF. I was wondering if you guys would jump on something like that. I know I haven't driven it yet, but if it checks out to just be a MAF sensor replacement would it be worth it? Any other things to be on the lookout for? This would be for a spare car, with a turbo setup possibly down the road.

Ask him for pictures of said dent, ask him to check for codes and report back. If it is indeed a bad MAF, it's fine since MAF’s are cheap

it AT or MT?

Not a bad deal depending on the dent and the codes. Risk factor = 1.8/5.

I'll probably go look at it tomorrow, hes only 5 minutes away from me. A mechanic ran it on the computer and said it was just a MAF sensor problem.

Depending on condition I'd jump on it, BUT, none of us can really say without seeing it and checking it out.

I looked at a 5-speed on craigslist for $650 that I passed on, it needed new everything, lol. Interior was junk, tranny was junk, engine was pissing oil out everythwhere, body was junk, core support was junk, spoiler was ripped off. I should have taken pics for the .orgs amusement, he wouldn't bite my offere for $200 as a parts car.

But I've also bought 3 other 5-speeds ranging from $250-700 that were well worth it for parts or repair. You just have to know what to look for, the core support, overall condition, and transsmision (if it's a 5-speed) are the main things that I look at before deciding whether I a: want it for parts B: want it for fixing or C: laugh my *** off annd hope that nobody buys it thinking they're getting a killer deal.
