Different radio antenna for 95-99 Maxima?

Hi, I have a motorized antenna on my 95 maxima and I hate it ! I'm thinking of taking it out and having that part shaved. What I'm asking is, Has anyone on here switched out their antennas with something different or has put it in a different spot? Also, was it hard and difficult to switch out? Can anyone on here tell me what antenna to go with and where to put it and post pics of what their Max looks like with it? Thanks!

Maxima's actually have 2 antennas stock. The other one is above your defroster on the back windshield. My max came with the normal antenna missing, but I've never had any problem with radio reception. I say just get rid of it and don't worry about it.

if you get rid of the normal one, just be aware that your AM might start to suck to the point of becoming unusuable

Ok cuz I have the bose system but with a Pioneer Premier 860p cd player hooked up. I don't really want to take it out unless I can put like the antenna like the new cars have with the black one but shorter if they make them shorter ya know?

There are two. The motorized one that comes out the truck I no longer have. Got rid of it short after I got the car because my antenna was stuck up and the teeth had broken off in the motor and jammed it all up. My am and fm work just fine, a lil staticy here and there but nothing big at all. threw a shark fin on my roof and I'm good

if your talking about how to hook the antenna to the head unit then all you have to do is put the male line that comes from the antenna mount/housing and plug it into the female port in the back of the head unit.

Is that what you meant?

Yeah but, I was also wondering where to hide the wires if I was to put it on the roof right above the back windshield cuz wouldn't the wires be in the inside? How would I hide them without messing anything up on the inside? - As you can tell I don't know that much on this stuff

My 97 SE also has two antennas and I don't have the Bose system. I would just disconnect power to your antenna and leave it down. Leave all wiring alone and let the Antenna in rear window do its job. The powered antenna is only used for AM reception so if you listen to am then you'll want to consider a different approach. I'm not sure if the Radio set-up is the same in the 95 or not. Give it a try and see what you think.. If what you really want is a cooler looking antenna then my suggestion obviously won't work..

Just a thought...

Nope- I don't have bose- 2 antennas. It is what they call "fm diversity." The idea is that each will probably get better signals at different times, so you are doubling your chances of getting signal. In reality, each should work just fine on their own. At least for fm, I never listen to am.

You can see the other antenna- its right above your rear defroster, except it wont actually clear the window at all- thats an antenna.

In my 88 maxima there were two as well. Except the power antenna was used for FM and the window to maximize reception. When using the AM it would only use the window one. I assumed my 95 worked the same way. Gonna have to unplug my auto antenna to check reception without it up.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm curious about the dual antennas, and I can't post questions yet.
I have a '97 that orig. came with Bose sys., but that was replaced with Polk Audio speakers, Eclipse head unit + Eclipse four channel amp. I replaced the broken elec. antenna mast (easy fix and it's usually just the plastic stem in the mast that breaks) but my FM reception still sucks. It's definitely better when the antenna is up. So is there a separate coaxial for the window antenna? If so, where is it located? I'm assuming mine is either broken or disconnected given that everyone, except me, seems to have good FM reception without the antenna extended.

Its possible the new system wasn't hooked up to the window antenna. If you get an antenna adapter for a maxima it will have 2 leads- one for each antenna. I would check to see if there are any antenna wires that aren't hooked up behind the HU, and make sure you have the right antenna adapter.

Thanks for the info. I haven't pulled the HU yet, but I will check tomorrow. Tonight I installed a knock sensor. What fun! Anyway, do you know if the antenna adapter is available after market, or is it something I have to get from Nissan?

Sorry to dig up an old threadbut I can't post new ones yet.

Has anyone had any luck with this adapter?

http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=40-ni10

I have a 98 GLE. Order an antenna

http://www.installer.com/item/displa...php?it=44-CR88

and the adapter doesn't match.
