Oil Pressure Light

Okay, so as I started my car last night to come home, my oil light came on. It was weird because that light was not as bright as, say the CEL. The light was flickering, but no in a constant pattern. As I was driving, the light went away. This morning I start up my car, and the light was there. It didn't flash, just on. Now I was readying some other post about it, but I still wasn't sure on it being low oil, or something else. its never done this before.

I would say let car warm up and check oil level by the dipstick.

Do any of the other lights come on the dash after car is started (battery light)?

When I start my car, all the light come on, but the go away after a second. But the oil light is still stays on. I was going to go get an oil change tomorrow and hope that it fixes the problem.

If I were you I wouldn't be driving it anywhere. If you can't troubleshoot it yourself then get it towed somewhere that can look at it for you.

Driving with no oil pressure = fried engine.

what if his oil pressure sensor is dead or something ?

Those are known to be leaking a lot - also whats the oil level ? not too sure about this one havent heard people complaining of this at all

if its the oil pump then thats a fried engine

yea, definately start with checkin your oil level. if it has oil, check around the oil pressure sensor for leaks. i would test the sensor first, and if thats a negative, replace it and see if that solves your problem. if not, youre probably not going to have an engine much longer

Replace the oil pressure sender unit, you can't really test it unless you have a rig... If that doesn't work, change the oil, and if that doesn't work, drop the oil pan and see what kind of sludge you have in your oil pump...

So, when was the last time that you checked your oil level? Make sure that the car is on level ground and NOT running. Pull the dip stick, wipe and then, check the level. ALso, when (how many km's ago) did you last have the oil changed? Any brown spots on the ground lately? SOmething you should have noticed...

The oil pressure sending unit is something that you can change yourself, you just need the proper tool. It's an oil pressure sending unit socket. The rest of the suggestions were good.

Could be the oil pump, but unless you were running your oil WAY past the reccommended intervals...... you should still be good.

Or if this is on your 5-speed and missed a shift, that will fubar the oil-pump real quick. But yeah, don't even start it.

the oil light only comes on when the sensors sense that there is a low oil condition. Usually if damage is going to be done, by the time the light comes on, the damage has allready been done. The Oil light is not like the oil change light in some newer cars.

You should see it come on at just before you fully turn the key over.
If not, sounds like a burnt out bulb.
