ECU Question
ECU Question
What are all the options for a 99 ECU? Can you send in yourold one to like JWT or Technosquare to get flashed or programed or chipped? Can they or any other company repair fried ecus? or whatevers wrong with them? If not is there anywhere that does? Is it true you can only use something like Piggys backs only? And is it true you can use an auto ecu in a 5 spd but not the other way around? And if so are there any problems or codes that I would have to deal with?

First of all, what exactly are you trying to accomplish??
1. JWT, EU (tried and true) or standalone (unfamiliar territory, but can be done)
2. Yes
3. Don’t know. Doesn’t seem worth it IMO. Just buy a used one in working condition from someone here in the FS section.
4. No. But doing a full standalone will require lots of time, patience, knowledge and/or deep pockets for someone to do it for you. Anything is possible. To my knowledge, no one has done a full standalone on a 4th gen Maxima.
5. Not sure. Some have put a 96 5spd ECU into their 99 Maximas (modified by JWT to work) and they have codes/issues. (as seen in the link NmexMax provided)
Okay thanks. My main question was the last question but I added in the other to make sure. I had read up a little about it and tried to find more but couldnt find anything so I thought I'd ask. But I need a new ecu and only one person has gotten back to me and they have an ecu for me but its a 99 fed spec auto with abs. And I had hear that you could use auto ecus on 5spds but not the other way around and wanted some more support behind that befor I go ahed buying my third ecu. Havent been having good luck with them. I just bought one off car-part.com and nissan just told me it was bad and the consult 2 could not read it, it just keeps saying error. So before I buy another I want to make sure it works for one and that it is compatable and so nissan cant say anything to me because there always coming back at me with some other problem about how they cant do whatever because parts dont match up.
My ECU took 9 weeks, but my car was never down
I bought a spare ECU.
Yes, your immobilizer might cost you a little more, but it's either 10 weeks, or an additional +~120$. That choice is up to you.
www.car-part.com, look under Engine Computer.

I went to nissan to get my key, ecu, immobilizer reprogramed and they said they get half way through the process and it just keeps restarting. I was wondering if you had any more knowledge of this? Could my immobilzer box be bad? ignition switch? the ecu and engine harness are in working order. The key gets programed but when they turn off the prcess to keep the programming and they take the key out, the key looses its programing. I was wondering if you could help or point me in the right direction. I made a post in the 4th gen maxima discussions section. Thanks.
