i hate my car
well i woke up today and was on my way to school, so i went outside started my car up and let warm up for about 25mins then got back in it to leave and i put the car in "R" and it does nothing but revs up to 2.5k and thats it then i put the car in "N" and it goes forward, then i put the car in "D" and it goes forward but it seems that the passenger side tire is spinnng in the dirt while the other isnt.. Now was wrong with my car? this is too much i gotta get 2 jobs this summer..and my car has 211,000 miles on it and plus i already replaced the tranny in nov. 06.

Im about to go try it again and see how it goes..
well i just tried it and and its the same thing..and to add to insult when the car is in "P" the car only rev's to 2.5k and that its it no more!

Could also be the tranny sensor ( the one that tells the ecu/tranny that you are now in D mode , P mode, R mode, 1-2-3 mode... could just be the sensor that is fried..
cheap fix...not expensive..
#14
the 25min warming up really hurts the car? and lets hope its the sensor...you think they changed it with the tranny?

Excessive periods of idle are what is not good. Also, in regards to warm-up, people always think that once the temp gauge hit's the middle it is fully warmed up, not the case at all.
The best thing to do is let it warm up for 1-2 minutes, than drive really light for the first few minutes, and even than DO NOT beat on your car for a good 20+ minutes. The temp gauge tells you coolant temperature, your oil temop and even than still your pistons don't fully expand for a good 20 minutes.

In regards to warm up time i dont usually drive the max to work i drive a camry and i let it warm up at LEAST 15-20min every morning or it sucks driving it. Thismorning it warmed up for about 22min and it was still barely above the C mark on the temp gauge and the power steering was hard as $hit lol. Thats just how it goes in the north here in WI. Thismorning btw it was about -16 below zero and about -31 with the windchill according to the radio. Cant tell me with cold like this 5 min warm up is going to cut it
*edit* i also let it run that long when its above zero but still very cold because it sits outside and i usuall crank the defrost to help assist me with ice removal on the windows.

well i just got back from my local body shop and they qouted me at $800 for another transmission im going to drop it off torrommow he siad hes going to look at it before he orders anything to make sure its not something else..He also said he replaced the tranny in his white 96 twice and twice in his tan 95..so i guess thats what im going to do..I seen another tranny on the car-parts site for 250 shipped! with like 74k miles on it ans its been tested! but there's $450 labor charge also..

5-speed swap FTW, if you have the $
I dont let my car warm-up unless its around zero degrees F. I just get in, start her up, fumble around looking for a CD to put in, etc - thats a minute or two, and then just take it really easy (keep it below 2500) until the temp needle hits the middle.

In reguards to your Camry taking a long time to heat up have you tried changing out your thermostat? It could be stuck open. I know you are in very cold conditions but the temp gauge should still be towards the middle after running that long in any temp.

yea i actually replaced it due to it sticking open right at the begining of winter it wouldnt even move off C. The car plain out sucks so i dont really care about it anyhow, kinda rare though its a 2 dr 95 lol.

i call a transmission tech too and he qouted me at 900 installed and i get the car back same day..but he also said a rebuild would be $2500..so i was like NVM on the rebuild..

WTF? Are you guys insane? 20-30 mins of warm-up? Ever heard about engine wear? Ever heard about engine pre-heaters? Ever heard about the ENVIRONMENT? Ever read the owners manual? It says the car should never be warmed up this way due to unnecessary wear, fuel consumption and pollution? And you people b**ch about fuel prices (which is less than half of what the rest of the world pays)?
-
On the other hand, JEXTEL - have you checked the fluid level? ATs often act weird when they're low on ATF.

do it once and do it right. Also get the warranty.

This might be completely irrelevant but, did you check codes? You mentioned that the car wont rev past 2500RPM. I read somewhere that the ECU has a fail safe. The problem i was reading about was on the knock sensor code P0325/0304. It stated that if that code is thrown the ECU will limit the speed of the motor to 2500 RPMs. Other than that... auto is my kryptonite. Although I wouldn't mind having one right about now... I'm getting old lol.

did u not read as to WHY i personally do this? If any of u guys saying this dont live in a place that gets below zero on the daily i dont think you should be quick to judge. I could really care less what the manual says if i warm it for 2min 1) it will drive like **** 2)i wont be able to see because ice covers all windows and the defrost hasent worked yet 3) i could say the same thing if i lived in lets say TN that northern guys are crazy 4 it but its simply a stupid battle that no one will win. New trannys in dudes car everyones happy.

yes your tranny or your drive shaft because if one wheel is spinning and the other not then u could have broke a cv joint but i think its the tranny
