Has anyone ever had EGR issues or threw a P1402 SES before?

So I went to my custom exhaust shop and they said it was throwing a P1402 and it is EGR or temp sensor related... but he could not give a clear answer on what it was... So he cleared it and it came back in 500miles to read a different code...

The code then said it was an EGR orifice clog. I was like great... That could be in any vacuum line... Now what... So I went to nissan and they said Diag and work will cost me $400-600 dollars...

I was like screw that... I love the car but I am not putting that much into it when I could put that into a performance part or a new clutch. Although this issue is causing performance issues and bad gas mileage...

Has anyone had this issue before? Have you ever seen anything like this or what can be done? Its a bit cold out for me to figure it out and I don't have the right scan tool to do the job, but if it is someting easy like a Temp sensor I will do it.

p1401 or p1402? p1401 is a very common problem with maximas and requires the cleaning of the small EGR pipe. tons of posts about it.

i work at a dealership and just bought a 97 with the same issue. they have to clean the egr tube and possibly some other area. it also is a good time to do valve cover gaskets and will prob cost between 2-4 hundred to do the job right. from what i hear it pretty involved.

if you do it yourself, it costs about $15 (gaskets and throttle body cleaner) and about 4-5 hours. You can also clean your throttle body and IAC Valve while you are at it.

The EGR vacuum solenoid valve is tied to 12V and ECU controls it from the GND side. At idle, short the GND side of the EGR solenoid valve to battery GND. If the car then idle rough, the EGR pipe and valve is ok. The problem is elsewhere.

Check the manifold side of the vacuum valve to see if there is a vacuum leak.

Alright... lol.. .thanks guys... Anyone have a write up of cleaning the ERG tube? I mean I can do it if I wanted to hunt for it and not have the tools while going down there but I rather just have everything planned for me...
