motor swap questions...Help!
I have two 95 maximas. 1 is a 5spd SE and the other is an automatic gxe. I would like to take the motor from the SE and put it on the GXE. Aside from ensuring I swap the flywheels, is there aything else that will prevent me from doing this succesfully? Any write-ups I can benefit from?
Thanks in advance!

I think you have it correct, if the only differnces are the trannys then the only differnces start occuring from the flywheel on. Everything else is straight plug in/ bolt on. Make sure you TQ everything to spec. Theres nothing special about doing it or anything to worry about sense physically the motors are the same aswell as the sensors so your harness will plug in everywhere. Swap the flywheel with with the auto trans stuff, throw it back up there and call it a day, will be golden. Can i ask why you want to swap the motors?

Wondering the same thing, I'd fix up the 5-speed with the auto parts if I were you, or just buy an engine, they are so so so cheap because they never go bad.
Tips from somebody who has done way to many: Do it from the bottom. Route a coathanger under the LIM and use that to pull a chain through. Leave the a/c compressor connected in the bay but leave tranny, y-pipe, passanger-side axle attached to motor, all of that stuff is much easier to swap over out of the car and put back in as one unit.
Also, unfortunatly you can't use the 5-speed wiring harness, but still disconnect it at the ecu etcetera and pull the engines with the entire wiring harness attached, again it's easier to swap out off the car.

The 5spd is totalled but the motor is mint..... The automatic one is mint but it has a blown head gasket!!! I have to cut the 5spd one in half to get the motor out. It's messed up bad...

If I read you correctly, you are installing this engine in an automatic trans car?
If so, then you must be sure to install a torque converter pilot bushing in the end of the crankshaft. No need to remove the manual trans bushing, even if it is there. It will not interfere.

Might as well do a conversion than!!! Yeah it's alot of work, but you'll be doing the bulk of it already, just a matter of pedals and rods, which could easily add an entire day to your motor swap, which is peanuts, SOOO worth it IMHO, unless your 5-speed dif bearings are trash.

He wasn't planning on swapping tran's, that's why he was going to swap the auto flywheel onto the se motor

I just want to use the motor that I have. I don't want to do a manual swap. Basically, I want the car to run when I am done. It's just a project I'm looking to make 500 bucks on and learn during the process...I just want to put the motor from the 5spd into the auto car, start it and drive 65mph and not have any problems...

I have a 1996 Maxima with close to 300k miles on it. I am seeing antifreeze leak. I am pretty sure this is the water pump. I also have a timing chain kit and the nissan manual. I say about 6 hours of work and I can replace the timing chain, front main seal, water pump as well as anything that might be leaking oil on the side. Basically the side of the engine towards the front of the car towards the passenger side (near the front side of the motor) has oil oxidized residue. I replaced the vale cover gaskets but now I am thinking it is something maybe behind the timing chain cover.
So this is my dilemma. Do I replace that, or do I just go get a 99 Maxima Engine, pull it from a junk yard for anywhere from $200-$300 if they pull it for me and just swap the engine out? That way, I can get something newer, for under 100k miles, and I can replace all seals, my clutch, basically make sure everything is in tip top shape before sticking it in there. I will then have my old motor out of the car and I can even rebuild it with the timing chain and everything and possibly sell that off or keep for spare parts.
Thoughts?
I already have the timing chain and water pump. My buddy will help me do the Engine swap for $300 on top of what the motor cost me plus any seals or parts I might need to buy like a clutch etc...
So roughly $600 to build the dang thing : )... He says once the engines hit high mileage like mine, when you start taking things apart, more things end up breaking.
I love this car and it drives good and is in great shape!...
Or would it be worth it to try and put a more powerful engine in the car? Now, I would still want good gas mileage.
