These screws wont come out...
I'm trying to do a cluster swap but the metal plating wont come off because the screws just crust with a screwdriver. http://www.geocities.com/amixam69/ni...ash/step1.html
I can't complete the rest without taking it off. Anyone got any tips?

He's talking about the metal plate that is underneath the steering wheel that you have to remove in order to get access to the gauge cluster. By "crust with the screwdriver", I'm assuming you mean they crumble? This link should be helpful... http://www.motorcycle.com/how-to/how...rews-3440.html Good luck.

PBlaster and 8 or 9 mm 12pt socket (if the head of the bolt is that rusted). let it soak in. hammer the socket on to get a secure grip and turn. you will of course need new screws. sounds like a flood car. You know you can get teh cluster out without removing the plate or the steering column sleeve right?

pull out the screws that hold in the bezel, adjust the steering wheel wo it is all of the way down, pull forward so you can pop out the cruis control etc. switches and unplug them, and if i remember right, you pull the bottom part of the bezel out far enough to just past the beginning of the steering column sleeve. then pull out the top and it'll come out. it will squish but wont break or warp. I have done it a million times but take no responsibility if you try it. :-D

that's how i did it. but of course with my luck the black plastic trim broke in the lower right corner . doesn't bother me though because it makes it that much easier to remove it.

K tahnks guys. Swap was successfully done but i actually liked the black cluster better. lol. Part of its got to do with the orange and white on black leather. Kind of distracts me on the road and its harder to read the sppedometer. Ey also ive been getting a annoying tickking sound if i am driving. Maybe from the odometer? but it is a constant tick.... tick.... tick.... tick only when im driving. Any idea?
