I have the same ticking sound as udienow. If it is the tc tensioner would it damage the car to keep driving like that? I have to get it fixed soon... it's very loud and a little embarassing.

I have the exact same ticking noise on my '99. I was worried until I started listening to the noise of other 4th gens, and realized they ALL make that noise, every single one. That's just how our cars sound. If you don't like it, get an intake to drown it out.

Seriously.. so I can't fix it? Damn. I do love the car but that ticking is annoying. Well if anybody thinks of anything I'm all ears LoL (all ears, that's why the ticking sound annoys me so much)

I had the same ticking noise as the video near the top. First check to see if you injectors are within factory spec's. then get seafoam(not the deep creep) and put little less than quarter of can in car through the intake method. then dump the rest( about 10oz) in to the gas tank when gas tank guage reads half full. Shake car side-to-side and bounce up and down to mix this with the fuel. then start car and go for a short drive, just enough to get gas with seafoam mixture into the engine. when you come back see if noise is still present. mine was gone

This would require replacement of the worn shim(s) to reset the clearance to proper. Nissan basically has an array of various thickness shims to properly set this. <snip>

DPF is right. No hydraulic lifters in the VQ30.

when you say right side you mean the passenger side right? if so check the TC chain and tensior components

Valve tick is audible but It shouldnt be loud. If your car is as loud as a helicopter then yes u have a problem.

Here is the problem that sucks. From what i hear the updated tensioner will reguire changing the chain guides and this is not an easy fix. Nissan no longer sells the 95-96 version. All u can try to do is find another used tensioner or try to fix urs. Do a SEARCH, someone jus replace the tensioner for a 95 and thats what he reported back.

If nissan doesn't carry it, its not the end. go for aftermarket. not always best option but its better than doing nothing
