Wheel opinions FTW !!!!!

WEIGHT IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR HERE

stock sawblades are 16.5 lbs and i am aiming for wheels in that range. i currently have wheels that are 24.5 lbs and the reduction in braking, acceration and gas mileage is unacceptable.

i want 17" wheels for various reasons i wont get into. the setup i currently have is 17 x 7 with a 40mm offset, and i am happy with its fitment and flushness.

i know i want darker colored wheels, not white, not black.
ideal would be grey or dark grey/gunmetal.

i just came into some cash so my price can flex.

I have a couple of choices in mind, but if you have something to add, please feel free.

#1) - Kosei K1 TS - 14.1 lbs

17 x 7 with a 36mm offset, meaning they will stick out roughly 2-4mm more than my current setup, which would be good.

I like these the most out of all of my options, especially because they are so light, but the one thing that bothers me is the inner lip (behind the spokes) which will make the rim look smaller than it actually is. and when you have 17s, anything that constricts the look of the wheel is bad. i just dont want to spend $1100 on a setup that i end up not liking.

#2) - Motegi Racing SP 10 - 17.0 lbs

17 x 7 with a +40mm offset. Im not sure what the difference is between a "40mm offset" and a "+40mm offset", but im guessing they will sit about the same as my present setup.

I really do like the way these look, but then again they are roughly the weight of the stock wheels (16.5 lbs for the sawblades) and they would sit inward more than the Koseis - but maybe that would be better for a drop when i end up doing it.

plus theyre on backorder for 2 months.

#3) - O.Z. Ultraleggera- 17.8 lbs

17 x 8 with a 40mm offset. With the same offset as my current setup but 1" wider, they would stick out an extra 0.5".

I kind of like the spoke design and the weight is about right, but once again, just like the Koseis, they have that inner lip which makes the rim appear smaller than it is. They are also $263 each, which would add an extra $400 compared the cost of the Koseis or Motegis.

#4) - ASA EM9- 21.0 lbs

17 x 7 with a 40mm offset.

I would have to say i like this spoke design the most, and the price is right and the sizing/fitment is right, but they are 21lbs. with that weight, i might as well stick with the 24.5 lb ones i have currently.

yea i know this is my car and ultimately my decision, i was just lookin for some feedback and if anyone has had experience with any of these wheels.

by the way I have a PEARL WHITE 97 GLE in case you cant see in my signature.

Thanks

personally, I LOVE the kosei k1 ts. It was my first choice for a wheel, but I couldn't find the size I needed. BUT, PLEASE GO 17x8 or WIDER!

IMO that's too skinny. it's only half an inch wider than stock and still should only have a 225 on it. Personally, I think it's kinda silly to spend so much money on an upgrade like wheels, and hardly be any wider than stock.

I went 17x9 with 255's and still get wheel hop, and can still slide it around corners. IDK, maybe 17x7 is fine for your driving style, but not for me.

In the end, it's your choice, so go with what you like. Don't let people like me tell you what to get.

good luck with the decision!

sp10 is the best looking.

if you are upgrading you should go wider... i would say at least 8.5.

+40 is the same is 40. the reason they add a plus is because there is such thing as negative offset wheels (hub on the inner half of the centerline aka. huge lips).

if i got a 8.5 my wheels would protrude from the sides.

i had G35 wheels on there once and they stuck out like 2 inches. it looked ridiculous.

it's all about offset.
my new 17x9 with a +35 offset. hardly stick out at all, and no rubbing.

staggered=
especially staggered the wrong way on a FWD car. get 9's and use spacers in the rear.

and ROCKART, pretty sure those G35 wheels are a 22 offset. That's why they stick out like that, and that's why my WIDER wheels stick out less

i felt like that at one time too, but with some wheels the size makes a nice visual contrast.

honestly i'd rather stagger than buy a new wheel knowing i would need a spacer but thats me.

they werent 22 they were 30

they were either 18 x 7.5 with a 30mm offset
or
18 x 8 with a 30mm offset.

the downside to staggering is the inability to rotate your tires
thats the main thing holding me back from getting a super cheap set of 350z wheels. my friend will sell me the whole set for 200.

but a) theyre staggered and b) they come with the stock bridgestones, which suck in the rain (as he found out)

I do like flush wheels front and back...but when that's accomplished by wider wheels in the back...it looks dumb.

I'm mainly talking about people that drop 1200+ bucks on brand new wheels, and get a staggered setup. I can understand OEM wheels that you got a deal on or something.

Also, spacers would not be necessary. Buying new tires more frequently due to lack or rotation would be!

i did exactly that. i bought brand new wheels in the perfect offset staggered sizes. i don't feel that you will ever be able to tell the difference from a 9.5 from an 8.5 once installed on the vehicle, other than the face of the wheel.

i think theres a lot of anti-fwd hype in the "don't stagger" mindset. if you could tell the difference, from the rear i think a 9.5 wheel would look better than an 8.5 pushed out ~1".

to get all wheels flush on a non-staggered set up you would need to either run a spacer or "offset stagger" which makes rotating a huge chore (dismount and remount tires).

the g35 wheels were 18x8 + 30. which should have been around perfectly flush in the front, and sligthly sunk in the rear. tire size and ride height have a lot to do with the overall appearance, but if you did not like it than maybe flush isn't for you (personal preference, like i mentioned).

not trying to change anyones mind here. just sharing some info.

I noticed that too. What's the purpose? Is it for filling the tire with nitrogen?
