Hella Yella are now poorly made

I purchased new 85W Hella Yella Yellowstar fogs to replace a burnt out one I put in about 2 years ago.. They are now made in Korea rather than Germany .. They worked for maybe a day or two.... I thought it was a wiring problem and checked all the wiring.. I tried put the stock fogs in and they work fine.. I decided to measure the resistance of the bulbs circuit and it was way too high... I looked closely at the bulb and you can see the weld from the power wire touching the housing which is the ground... Anyway, just a warning if you have the original Hell Yella bulbs and you need to replace them.. I need to get new Fogs for my car.. I want 85 watt, like the Hella Yella (H3)... White or yellow tint.. Whats out there and where can I purchase them.. Thanks...

best bet is to go with the piaa's or the catz lights, although they are both a little pricey, they are well worth the extra money, and you don't have the hassle of replacing your fogs 2 or 3 times.

I have the old hella yellowstars and love em. I hope they don't go out - since what you're saying. Do you guys get high beamed by other drivers? I do and my lights are aimed according to spec.

The old ones are great.. Did you get the ones made in Korea or Germany? If you dont know, just look at the fogs.. If they're yellow, than those are the old ones.. The new ones are not.. Look at the same thread in Gen Max discussion... there's more info....

Depends on which ones you got. The newer ones coming out are whiter. I loved them at first but know, I am looking for alternatives.

Oh, just to let you know

85W bulb + cold a$$ day = cracked fog lights

Trust me I know.

I'm gonna try the Phillips All-Weather or PIAAs next.

Hey, I've got the 85's and have been nervous about the cold weather. Do you live anywhere near Md? I guess I'm gonna put some other white ones back in.

At least yours lasted more than two days... I think I'll go with the PIAA's also.. Not familiar w/ the Phillips.. Every now and then, I would get high beamed... Must be jealousy.. Live in South Texas, freezes maybe twice in the winter.. Winter is fall down here..

Is that $200.00? I assume that's for a fog light kit, and not bulbs I am not aware of anyone else that makes yellow H3's for our cars, so if CATZ does I may be interested. Thanks.

Yellow Stars in Winter....

I have had mine for about two years. I have driven them in snow in DC amd havent had a problem. The fogs on the 95-96 are thicker glass than the later years. Now I just hope they don't burn out. the yellow they cast is perfect to me.....but I have the German ones : )

I had the 85w Hella yellow stars in my 93gxe....with nissan add on fogs(same as the se style, but slightly more "slimline"). At any rate.....they got HOT. I live in Buffalo, NY. We get SNOW...and COLD. I'm not sure thats what made em crack, could it have been stones? something like rocksalt? The crak is a thin one and they don't seem like the would get worse. I've got some generic h-3's in there now. I think i want to go back to the yellow OR HID white, but raybrig charges like 100 bucks....no thank you...not for bubls.

ps-my hellas lasted from fall last year to the begining of this summer.

I don't get it >>

Hella makes some of the best auxiliary and OEM lighting equipment. But when it comes to bulbs, they came seem to make ones that last more than 4 months.
