Wear your seatbelt. If it's so obvious, do it.

Latch the seat belt and then cut the straps leaving the seatbelt fastened. Its a fashion statement. Especially if you leave the straps long and hangin all over the place.

Plus I hear if you cut the restraints out all together you get 5 hp.

Go to a junkyard, cut out a seatbelt clip, put it in. Voila!

I would say the easiest thing to do is to put you seat belt on, I got so use to wearing mine that I forget and even put them on when I'm just moving my car from the driveway to the garage. Hey the light will not be on and you will be safer. Good luck with driving without belts.

Yup I think driving like a maniac is a different thing but not putting on your seat-belt is just asking for it . If you drive your car hard, race with it and stuff, you're already risking a lot, the least you can do is use what's already there to reduce the risk of getting hurt or even dying if something is to happen. And even if you drive like grandma, you're still equally at risk. Better be safe than sorry bortha.

I did this the other day.

My wife got all ****ed off about it. There's a couple wires that run up to the latch, just clip them. Makes the car think your seatbelt is on. Bye-bye annoying light.

Um, what is so bad about wearing your seatbelt? Might as well also disconnect the airbag while you are at it, cuz you are going to get serious hurt in any accident if you are not wearing your seatbelt. The light is there for a reason.

The voice of reason says. . .

This is just plain stooooooooooooopid.

Sorry, man - I'd just hate for anyone else who actually WEARS their belt to go getting the idea that this makes a shred of sense.

To the guy with the complaining wife: She should be pi$$ed off! She obviously gives more of a rats a$$ about your wellbeing than you do. That makes you luckier than you realize. If you gave a rats a$$ about her, you'd just wear the damn belt. I sure hope you don't have kids.

I ask you: Which do you think would be more uncomfortable?

A) Wearing a seatbelt daily
B) Spiral fractures & crushed joints (not to mention months/years of rehab) you'll endure in a frontal impact when your upper body slams off the airbag and your un-restrained lower half gets wedged into the now tiny, crushed space between the dashboard & the floorpan? (Some people never walk again, following this type of accident).

Ever seen NTSB video of what happens to a dummy in a frontal impact without seatbelt/with airbag? It's enlightening - check it out.

Btw, this comes from a place of genuine concern for my fellow .org members. . .

I believe that light is required by law for all cars since 1997 also.

Just wear your seatbelt 100% of the time.

Hell, I park in a public garage, and if I just move my car from one side of the lot to the other, I wear it.

I wrote a paper on automobile safty in my class. Here is some stats for you guys and gals. Each person on average will be involved in a serious accident. Most fatal accident happen within 5 miles of your house in speeds 35-40 mph. Airbags increase your chance of survival when you are wearing seat belts by 9%, but if you don't wear your seat belts you decrease your chance of survival by 24%. An airbag is like a bomb. It comes out at the speed of 300mph, if you are not wearing seat belts you are in deep ****. For those that don't wear seat belts. More power to you I hope you will learn the easy way and not the hard.

The reason I have a Max now is because I totaled my Mustang GT under a 18-wheeler and then was shot out straight into the guardrail! I am doing rehab now for my left knee and shoulder but lived because the car was equipped with dual airbags and I had my seatbelt on.

If it was just airbags I would have been thrown through the drivers side window and then felt the entire airbag hit me. (even with the seatbelt it feels like getting hit full force by Mike Tyson).

So, wear the belt and be happy you have backup capacitors on the airbags! My wife cried for 3 days after the accident and seeing me in the hospital. I went to work 2 days later. Wear it!

e3 - e-mail for pics of the car if you want to scare yourself into wearing the damn seatbelt!

I guess I better start wearing my seatbelt. I know I should but I hate wearing it on short rides. Thanx for the advise.
P.s. - I already have a motorcycle

That little red light isn't going to do a damned thing to save you in an accident! Whether it's on or not doesn't matter. A person who doesn't want to wear their seatbelt isn't going to wear it whether a little red light is on or not. I personally find seatbelts uncomfortable to wear. My wife bought me some of those pads that say Nissan on them to encourage me to wear my seatbelt. I do wear them from time to time, though, just for something new.

You're right ... the little red light isn't going to do a damned thing in an accident.

That's because the seltbelt is going to do the damned thing.

Maybe you find the seatbelt uncomfortable to wear. How comfortable would you be in a neck brace? Or how about a wheelchair? Start wearing the seatbelt and it won't be uncomfortable anymore.

Start listening to your wife and us on this subject.

I never wore my seat belt until they changed the laws in my state. At first I used to get so ****ed because it was uncomfortable, but after a while I completely forgot I had it on. Now I put it on out of habit and can't even tell it's there.

Seriously, if you feel like the seat belt light is annoying, at least do the world a favor and make sure your organ donor card is filled out before you clip those little wires. people will thank you for your stupidity after they get the vitals that you don't need anymore.
