Is this rust normal, should I worry about it?

Hi -

A couple of small pipes are pretty rusted on 2 of my maxima's. I am not even sure what they are or what they do.

Do I need to worry about this rust? Do these normally get like this?

Thanks!

I'd sell the car......

Seriously.

Sand it and paint it and it will look pretty again.

Nothing wrong with a corroded coolant log...

i would say always worry about any rust since it will only get worse, but its just a sign of age. looks like your engione bay could use some attention, cause i see a lot of corrosion.

Definitely not normal looking at all the pieces that are rusted. What area are you from? Looks like up north where they salt the roads. Would be scared to see what else is rusted

Mines looked like that for years... In fact, everything in my engine bay is corroded.

The northeastern winters are pretty rough in terms of corrosion.

I would suggest not rubbing it down, because who knows how thick the walls are, and making them thinner isn't gonna help you...

I'm from Maryland. Around here, they freak out and dump tons of salt even if it look like it might snow.

Actually, the rest of the car isn't too bad. The Max's engine is pretty tough. All of that salt sprays up from the road and gets sucked through the radiator and fan and right into the front of the engine. Both my 95 and 96 look like this.

Thanks!

just replace those coolant lines, shouldn't be too much from the dealership and not to hard to change them yourself.

mine look like that too, I've been meaning to clean them up buy haven't got around to it. I assumed it was a fairly regular place for rust because I have no other rust in the engine bay.
one of these days Ill clean it up and paint it,
Is it a high heat pipe? (do I need a high heat paint?)
