Engine rear main seal leak!

My 98 SE 5 Speed Maxima has been meticulously cared for... but after 116,000 miles i suddenly developed an oil leak from the rear main engine seal. My mechanic is repairing the leak for $850.00 and he also talked me into changing out the clutch/flywheel for an additional $280.00 as it is overlapping labor. Does this all sound right? Anyone else get this leak?

It is a pretty common leak after that many miles but $850 is a bit much. Ive seen places do the labor for dropping the trans for $450-$550. The seal is about $50 from nissan.

He is right in doing the clutch and flywheel while hes in there but make sure its a quality clutch and not a "Key Value" brand clutch from Nissan. Nissan OEM parts are good just not Key Value.

I ended up paying $800 in labor and my mechanic replaced the rear main engine seal, my crankshaft seal, my clutch, both engine belts, and 2 transmission seals. Parts totalled about $400.00 - I guess the car is good for another 10 years now with good maintenance.
