Fog Light Bulb and Wring question...

Well i recently wired up the stock fogs to a switch in the open spot next to the dimmer switch.. It is wired up through a 30-inline fuse to the battery, and then to the switches.

The other day a bulb went out so i replaced them tonight with new 55W bulbs (some generic brand), and when i turned them on they got really hot really quick (about 5-10 minutes).. i checked all the wiring and it was fine, but i am worried about these running so hot that something could happen in there.

My question is this: Do stock bulbs in the fogs run really hot to the touch after like 5 minutes? Do I need to run better quality bulbs (piaa's or krypton gas) because they are the problem??

thanks,
jason

The bulbs and the lense get very hot, that is normal. What do you mean you wired up the factory fogs? Did you all ready have the fogs on the car and just ran the power to a constant switchable source rather than from the headlight circuit, or did you add the factory fogs later? I only ask because I am wondering why the one bulb burnt out, coincedence

My question is why would you put a seperate switch for your fogs and wire it different ? The car is already pre-wired for the fogs all you had to do is just plug in the oem fogs to the hornace that is taped on to the park light hornace behind the front bumper, as for the switch you dont need to add any additional switch just go to your junk yard and ask them for a fog light switch that came with the maxima SE or check with your dealer.

the reasoning was to be able to fill the blank spot on the dash, no junkyard had the switch assembly and nissan wanted 60$ for it, plus i didnt feel like taking apart all of the steering wheel and that to get to that switch and its harness.. i like being able to turn the fogs on with highbeams, without the rewire..

how do i aim the fogs?

There is a bolt on the back that is an adjustment ****.
Turn it very slightly (1/4 to 1/2 turn) and check

I think it's in one of the stickys at the top of the page. All I remember is something like: on level ground measure the distance from the center of the lense to the ground, project the lights onto a wall 25 feet away and the top of the "hot spot" should be 4" down from the eariler measured distance. Hope this helps, but confirm it.
