PLEASE help with shaking problem

car is a 99. When idling the car shakes, rpm's jump up and down. It shakes at stop lights, in neutral, in gear, dies going around corners. Just got done replacing all 6 coils and plugs, thought that would solve it. Also, no codes at all. The code I got a while back was for a cylinder misfire, so I replaced the coils and plugs. Didnt solve crap. Also, If I hit the brakes hard, the rpm's will drop and the car more times than not will die on me. Thanks for any help. Cant afford to keep driving the Hemi everyday at 13.5 mpg's.

No problems recently. About a year and a half ago I got a code for bad o2 sensor. But never replaced that, and the light never came back on since the first time.

When did it start shaking? Was any work done to the car around that time or just started out of the blue?

Its been shaking for probably like 6 months now. I know, a long time to let it keep doing it. But it wasnt bad at first, and now its unreal, I have to drive with 2 feet to keep the revs up so it wont shake or die out around corners and at stop lights. Yeah, I hit some big *** pot hole at work in the parking lot.

The struts are bad also, which I just bought the parts for, just have to put them on. But that has nothing to do with the shaking and dying out part, I would assume not anyway.

Oh yeah, no work was done to the car prior to the shaking. Just started to do it. I got the code for the cylinder misfire, and it just got worse from there. Like I said, I just replaced all 6 coils, all brand new. 3 from advance auto, 2 from auto zone, 1 from napa. Noone carries these damn things, and advanced said they could only get me 3, and then they were unable to order the others, thats why I went to 2 other places.

Check your fuel injectors. Resolved an issue I was having similar to yours. Theoritically, I would guess that a fuel pump going out would cause a similar issue due to weak fuel pressure? Pretty much pulling that one out of my **** though.

im gonna take a guess too. you might have a small vacuum leak. take it to a shop to have it vacuum tested. otherwise i would also say maybe bad fuel pressure?

also its a long shot but maybe worth trying...check the grounds on the car. they could be bad if never touched.

Well, I cleaned the crap out of the throttle body, it helped a little as far as the car not dying on me, but it still shakes and sputters at stops light or idling in park.

Anymore ideas? What about an exhaust leak? The muffler is all rusted and pieces falling off, but not sure if theres a hole in it or not, would that matter at all if it did have a hole?

I had the EXACT same problems not long after buying my maxima. From what you're saying it sounds like a bad Mass Air Flow sensor. The engine gets funky readings about how much air is coming in and has trouble mixing in the right ammount of fuel. Your symptoms are the exact same as mine right down to it acting worse during braking.

Go to Autozone and pick up a can of MAF cleaner ($6) and try that, If that doesn't work you may have to replace it ($240)

Changed out that pain in the *** knock sensor, didnt solve ****, dont even want to change out the 02's if thats not going to solve my problem yet. Next post will describe what lake the cars in incase anyone could use some parts off of it and wants to go diving for it.

Try the simple things first

· Check if someone has tightened the idle adjustment screw by mistake. If so readjust it. (Plastic screw on top of engine cover. Screw is connected to the IAC valve)
· Clean the MAF (be gentle)
· Check for vacuum leaks (use a vacuum gauge)
· Also remove and clean the IAC valve

All the best. Hope this helps.

Either a damaged MAF or quite possibly a bad connection between the plug and socket. But before replacing it, clean the MAF plug/socket, also clean the auto idle control valve, & replace the air filter.

would a bad maf set off the ses light? Ill try and talk my bro in law into letting me try out his maf and see if thats the problem. I did take it off and cleaned the crap out of it, the plug and all, but didnt help. By the time I figure this out the trans will be bad from having to keep putting it into neutral and every light so I can keep the revs up, and keep the car from dying out. Thanks for all the suggestions.

its def injectors bet 100/1
i just had an injector fail got code for misfire cylinder 6
replaced reset ecu and gone
mines 5spd but i can imagine auto would be worse upon deceleration causin stalling mine skipped @ idle could hear it in exhaust especially and intake sounded like a subaru lol had a watered out kinda sound

prob wont work if just clogged but if an injector is dead it wont click when as the magnetic coil powers then needle/pin wever up n down opening the nozzle it makes a very noticeable clicking noise take a hose put one end to your ear and other right on top touching each injector and listen if you can notice one not clicking its dead or you can unplug and check for continuity if you have a meter
