i have a blow air bag steering wheel and just got my after market one in 2day...and advice on were i should start by taking off the old steering wheel?...or any whole instructions..thx

^^ It's all spelled out very clearly in those manuals..

It's pretty intuitive anyway. Just dive in and chances are you'll figure it out. Only specialty tools you'll need are a tamper proof T50 torx bit, and a steering wheel puller (free rental from Autozone etc)

i didnt even need a steeringwheel puller. i just used a socket from my ratchet set. worked great.

from what i remember:
disconnect battery. pop off the covers on each side of the wheel. use T50 bit to take out the tamper-proof nuts (one on each side). slide airbag back out, disconnect harness. **you will lose your horn** unscrew 4 screws somewhere (i forget where but related to airbag)and then you should be able to get to the center nut holding the wheel in. leave the signal canceller in there as you would probably want that.

 

Ummmm..... How does a socket "pull" like a steering wheel puller does???

 

or rather my wheel was loose enough to "pull out" with my own strength.

i also never use a puller. you can usually give it a good pull and the wheel will come off.

 

give it a good pull. Also a wack on the bottom with a rubber mallet also works good!!!

 

just curious, why do people normally want to change their steering wheel?

 

Crap, I got the steering wheel puller but I didn't get the torx wrench.

or to do it for looks/styling and feel.
personally i wouldnt mind getting rid of my big ugly 96 wheel but good wheels are generally expensive.

 

Can I have some help here? the T50 doesn't fix... can someone tell me what the do? the Nut seems to have a piece in the middle and the T50 isn't gonna fit over it.

 

Its a torx security bit. thats why there's a hole in the middle of the bolt I believe. get one from nissan.

 

make sure its the security torx. it should have a hole in the center. go back and get one.

 

just curious but if you change your steering wheel and eliminate the air bag arent you going to have trouble gettin a safety inspection sticker

Pics of tools aren't really needed. We've already spelled out which tools to get. Go to Sears, Autozone etc and ask for them by name.

The Cliffnotes of how to do this task is posted above. If you need more, I recommend you purchase a Haynes manual from Autozone, a used one from Amazon.com/ebay, or download the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for free and read the section that applies. All in all, it's pretty straight forward. Just get the tools, and dive into it. Chances are, you'll figure it out on your own.
