Pleasehelp-dead remote controller.

Can someone tell me what to do (besides taking my car to the dealer who wants $100 to "investigate") about a remote controller that suddenly stopped working, and doesn't work with a new battery installed?

Thanks!!!

I'm not sure if the remote control has to be programmed after the battery is replaced. there is a program procedure here you can search.

I believe it does. It's simple, you get in the car, lock the doors, put the key in and out of the ignition several times, I think the magic number is 7 or 8 and then the flashers will flash once. That indicates your in program mode. Then you simply press any button on your remote. That should reprogram it to your car.

Reprogramming the remote is covered in the second link in the first post of the thread titled "Max FAQs".

You don't have to reprogram it when you change the battery. I suggest that you try some CRC Electronics Cleaner on the pushbuttons. You can get it at NAPA for about $5. You can also get a replacement off of Ebay for ~$20.

heres bad news, sorry

if you have 2 remote controls makes sure one of them works and rule out your computer. If not it could be a chip inside the car and i think that sucks. Happened to me and nothing could make it work again, i think it costs like 80 bucks to get it fixed. Sorry for the bad news if this is the case.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Here's how I programmed the remote after changing the battery:

1. lock doors.
2. insert key and remove repeatedly until the parking lights blink
3. turn the key to ACC
4. Press the lock key on the remote.
