steering REALLY loose!?!?!

my steering wheel is super loose. there is alot of play, like when i hit a bump its like im hydroplaning. and the faster i go the looser it gets, on the highway i have to hold it with 2 hands because if i hit a bump it goes out of control?

Was there a question there?

If you're having steering/suspension problems, it seems to me that the first course of action would be to check out the steering and suspension

Drive it carefully to a tire/alignment shop and have them check it out.

I think there could be air in the system or the rack and opinion is failing.
Try checking the power steering resovior If it's empty or if it's low and If there's any leaks.

I'd check the rack/LCA bushings/tie rod ends/ball joints.

You might try getting under the car an look at the P/S line connections. Lots of build up around the connections could indicate bad seals or lines. Otherwise it's a good chance the rack itself is not good. It could also be a pad P/S pump too.

If the passenger side of your engine and frame isn't covered in PS fluid, then it's probably the rack leaking. The corrugated rubber boots on each end of the rack are supposed to be dry inside, but I'll bet one or both of yours are all oily.

i had the same problem when i bought my car - very loose suspension, especially if i hit some bumps going around a curve on the highway. it was the rear struts. the car had 145k so i changed all of the struts, springs and mounts. totally different car. if your over 100k and you don't know if the struts were changed, have them checked.
