Battery/Ignition Issue
Battery/Ignition Issue
I recently replaced a battery with a Sears Gold Diehard. Didnt have any problems for about 2-3 months than the car wouldn't even turn over. Tried to jump and had to let it charge for about 15-20 minutes. Finally turned over. Got the car home and took the battery to Sears. They checked it and said no problem. They said they would check the alternator if I brought the car in. So they actually hooked something around the battery cable and they said that the battery was getting a charge from the alternator.
Not sure what the problem is. This is the second time this has happened, the first time I ended up ditching the battery and getting this one from Sears.
There is definitely something wrong with the charging system, but not sure what to check or where to look.
Need some help...

Have you checked the charging system and the battery, or had them checked out somewhere else?
The equipment Sears Auto Center uses isn't always accurate, especially if they used the handheld vs the large unit that's mounted on a cart (note: former SAC here).

Not sure how to check the charging system myself. As far as the battery I took it to Autozone as well and it checked out OK.
Sears used the unit on the cart that they had to roll to the car and did various diagnostic checks by revving the eninge, idling it, etc...

What kind of voltage is it putting out at idle? Autozone can also check charging systems.
I got same problem april20 night driving my car in the morning i need to jump it wit my truck going to work driving 30min going to work going home need to jump it again.I just recently replace my starter oct2007 and the battery dec 2007.i though i have a problem wit my starter and the battery so i took out the starter and the battery they replace my optima red top battery coz under warranty still and check my starter at autozone my starter is fine.the guy told me just clean all the rust spots on the connection of the starter and the connection suddenly my car is starting right away one click thanks for the autozone guy for giving me a trip to clean the wiring connection.
The ground wire going to the battery may be corroded, clean your points like post #5 said. When my ground was messed up I could start it, drive it 10 minutes somewhere, park and it wouldn't start. When I get a jump it would start. Park it and it may not start again til i fixed the ground issue.
