High flow cat? Brands to get and would I really need it?

I been hearing that my exhaust setup would sound much more deeper and better if I got a high flow cat, So I went to the guys that put my magnaflow catback on and I asked them If I can just slap on the inexpensive universals from various racing sites like (Greddy, megan etc...) but they said that I would need a 3-way high flow for my car and that there $100 ones and def not 3-way, and it will be pointless...

They told me that the 3-ways are more expensive but I will see results in power and sound... Now, I'm quite the guri are cars, but I think I should take this like a grain of salt...but I don't have any proof of this.... What do you guys think?

Should I do it? I don't like the sound of my exhaust http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9osuwSEDLos because I think it is too quiet(sounds like the sp2) and it only sounds good when I am hauling ***, as u can see in the video.

The sound I am looking for is a sound similar to the STi's and Evos have with there turbo back exhausts but... its obvious that their turbos are making those exhausts sound really mean, but I am sure there is a muffler out there that would sound close to that for an NA car... Does anyone know of any?

Wanting your N/A Maxima to sound like a turboed STI/Evo...

The sound difference between a high flow cat and an OEM cat should be minimal. The quality difference is noticeable too, as my high-flow only lasted 11 months before the honeycomb separated from the actual cat. Keep your stock one. If you want a difference in sound, get a test pipe.

sound

Hey Coremanx I have a Randon cat and the sound is very deep and when I punch it it has the sound of a Mustang although Randon cats are not cheap they are well worth it .. i'm not sure why you want to change the sound of your car cuz it sounds really nice and unique .. I would keep it the way it is ..

edit: didnt really listen to the video loud enough apperently.

I say just get a test-pipe and a rear o2 simulator....

And yeah... u cannot replicate the sound of turbo cars without a turbo.

The best sound I found so far that is somewhat equal is the Greddy Evo 2. but they are mostly for Gen 5s, Now I been looking around to see if I can buy just the muffler but I can't find any or at a good price. I will have it custom'd so it fits.

I just love the thick thick sound the Evo 2 and it is close to what FI cars make. Check it out...

The only problem is... all these sound mad different in person and camera take in more bass then others. I hope I could hear this in person if I get the Evo 2.

lol... thats not what I meant by Sounding like a turbo... I meant just the exhaust sound not the BPV/BOV or spool up sounds. I met the exhaust sounds different on FI cars over NA... :slaps head

I have a Random Tech cat on my car. It's been on there 4-5 years now. I like it, but wouldn't do it again if I had another max. Also, if you get your stock cat changed, DO NOT let the shop keep the old one. Cats are very valueable right now. To cash in a scrap maxima cat is like $50-100. Get that baby back!

hahah ya, I had a shop keep my stock y-pipe though... I couldnt do anything with it... Eventhough it had 2 pre-cats in there... I used to work at Midas and we used to cut off cats from exhausts after they were done and he used to cash them in... haha
