effin rocks

okay so i was driving behind a semi..bunch of little pebbles were flying off from the semi...i heard a crack...my girlfriend then pointed out that my windshield is cracked...it was a 5in crack and seems to be growing every time i hit bumps...so now its like 12in...what are my options? is the only way to go replacing it? i heard something in the radio about shops that just fill them in with polymers and fixes them...

how much do you guys think itll cost to get it replaced?

I've had to replace mine 2 or three times due to this type of thing. You can also claim it on insurance usually.

I think I paid $100 deductible each time since I had it replaced thru insurance.

yea, had the same prob last july. was comprehensive on insurance. but the job was around 350$ if i remember correctly. its not the glass thats expensive, its the trim/seal/sill whatever you wanna call it. not 4 months later in early december, bam. another one. at least this one wasnt in the exact middle of the windshield this time. passenger side bottom, finally started spreading up about 10 in now since the temp change. hate the effing dump trucks around here. never cover their load, and its orange barrel season again, so they are EVERYWHERE, so why replace it, not leaking right?

Damn that sucks. Here in Fl we get it fixed for free... Usually if its smaller than a $1 dollar bill they will fix it, anything bigger they will replace the windshield...

The FL state laws consider it to be a driving hazard, as in it can impair your vision and increase the likeliness to have an accident. I had mine replaced when we accidentally cracked it with my hood.

You can claim it on insurance, but your rates might go up depending on the coverage.

Also if you want, most junkyards have then out of the cars and are like $30 or so. Install shouldn't be more than $100.

hmm responses are kinda all over the place...the reason i want to replace is coz 1 it does kinda get in the way especially if it is sunny..2 it seems like its getting bigger and bigger...3 i dont want to hit a bump in the future and the whole windshield just shatters..ive never worked with windshields before so i dont know how...i guess ill just check with state laws and my insurance company....if not get it done...thats like 350ish?

i did just a little research for you...

Under most circumstances your front windshield is covered if you have full coverage.

Full coverage includes comprehensive and collision.

With full coverage, in most states you do not have a deductible for the front windshield, but all other windows are subject to the deductible.

If you only have liability insurance on your vehicle you will have to pay out of pocket for the replacement of your windshield, since it is not covered by your policy.
