Drop Question

Hey Guys,
i have a quick question for ya's. For christmas I think I might ask for some coilovers and struts. Not a bad gift that I could think of off hand. Here is my question. For coilover's I was considering Weapon r because people seem to like them and the price is not too bad. Where can you get them though? When I looked on the siet I could not really find them for a maxima... are they specific in being for Maxima's or not?

For the struts I was curious about what to get. Originally I was thinking maybe Koni's but then I saw you have to alter them to get them to fit? Is this still true or have they fixed this since the install FAQ's I read? Is there anyone else you would recommend I look into? I will be keeping the stock rims for now if that matters or not I dont know. Also since you have to make cuts or what not into the Koni's is it difficult or cause any other problems?

Thanks

SuDZ

Re: Drop Question

One of the Weapon R guys posted in one of the forums about possibly making a modified ECU for the 5th Gen. Someone asked about their coilovers and the guy said that their coil over guy was a "Retard". I'd steer clear of those if I were you.

Re: Drop Question

I dont have those Weapon R coilovers but if they were a piece of **** no one would get them, not for a max or any other car so if I was trying to get some good shocks Id get the weapon R coilovers and highly recommend the konis. For the koni installation check this place out, the modification is only for the front shocks.

go to this site out and see all the steps for koni installation. You can do it yourself is worth the time and effort.

nobody would get them?? Shure there are those who would get them but from what I heard is that weaponR didnt design the coilovers with the maximas heavy weight in mind. And its not like they would announce that they were selling a piece of ****

Looking over your mods, I think I'd recommend a RSB to you. Coilovers are fine, but I've been happy with my Suspension Techniques lowering springs and Tokico struts. I think they lowered my Maxima about 1.5". Whatever you get will be a big improvement over stock. Good luck.

don't do it..

i'll tell you what i told pawn.

Weapon R's coilovers are not made to handle the sheer weight of the maxima. They are a HONDA coilovers.. i really hope pawn drives so slow and does not hit bumps, a friend of mine back home went through 2 sets of weapon R's coilovers and the springs kept getting messed up.. they would essentially bottom out from a large bump and the 3300 lbs coming down on them.

and weapon R's are worse of a ride then GC's.. i would serious think about getting intrax or sprint with KYB's or Koni's..

BUT, if you want the coilovers go ground control.. they wont bottom out and you will never have to worry about em.. just you will need a kidney bag when you drive.

It sounds like alot of people are recommending the Ground Control / AGX group. What is the cost of them both and what is the ride like? Are AGX's changable as far as how firm they are like koni's are?

Also do the AGX's need anything done to them like the Koni's do?

Well...

No, AGX do not need modifications like the Konis. They are direct replacement. I don't know how much the AGXs cost, but the Ground-controls are $400 everywhere. They use Eibach springs too.

How do you do the drop using ground control? What I mean is it like something you just turn or whatever to go down then remove the tires to go back up? Which heights can you drop it to? I am just looking for as much info as I can get.

Thanks

1-3 inch drop. and to adjust height you have to use a wrench to adjust. easier than other coilovers cause they use one locking perch instead of two

Well...

Most people have to take off their wheels to get to the front ones, and the back maybe also but I'm not sure. They are not an easy 2 minute thing I guarentee you. Plus, when you go to change it your arms and hands and shirt will be so black won't believe .
