AC/Recirculation off...air still blows?

Alright, this might be something that is common sense, but I'm asking anyway.

On the air conditioner, if I have recirculation on, and the fan off, no air blows.-- this is correct!

but....

If I have recirculation off, the ac is not set for blowing defrost (blowing straight out), and the fan is off, I still feel air coming in as a drive. (if im stopped, no air)

So, outside air is coming in when recirculation AND the fan is off. I would understand if both were on, but shouldn't it shut off if the fan is not on?
--make sense?

its like a damper isn't closing. Also, I can have the fan off and turn the heat all the way up and feel hot air coming in. (I noticed this when I turned on the front windshield defroster (which automatically turns recirculation off), and turned the fan off when i was done defrosting---I stared getting hot and was wondering where the air was coming from?)

soooo.....turning recirculation on and the fan off keeps all air from blowing in. If i turn it off, air blows in.

......maybe this is its way? or, something is horribly horribly wrong

same problem. hot air coming in the bottom by my feet, when the a/c is off. i have an auto climate control. and not alot of air coming out of the middle vents, maybe they're intertwinded somehow.

No, that is the way Electronic Climate Control works. It tries to keep the car at a constant level of coolness or warmness depending on the outside temperature and the temperature that you have your thermostat set to inside the car. If it bothers you that much you can regulate the force of the air you feel blowing, by changing the temperature inside the car. I thought this feature was pretty cool when I found out about it.

I have the manual climate control. So even with the fan off, air blows in (from the outside force/driving), and is cooled/heated based on the thermostat? I dont recall noticing this before..but I usually have recirculation on. Hopefully everything closes when the car is off? ...I've had some moisture problems.

im pretty sure when the air conditioner is off no air is suppoed to blow anywhere and i dont think hot air is supposed to blow when it almost 90 degrees outside.

What temp do you have the car set to? The next time you feel hot air, and it is hot out, hit the AUTO button and change the temp to a lower temp. (Example: 90 degrees out, inside you have the temp set to 75 degrees, change it to like 70 degrees and I guaranty you wont feel hot air) The same for the winter time, that's what I do to avoid turning the AC on when I really don't need it or the heater when I don't need it.

Do you guys use the ECON button to turn on the heater during winter? Or do you just use AUTO year round?

your not understanding me, when the a/c is off. the display is OFF nothing showing. no air is supposed to flow through the vents because they close when you turn it off. but my guess is they're getting stuck somewhere and air is flowing through, and since its hot outside the air blowing in is going to be hot also.

What the OP is describing is normal. Even when the system is off, some air still trickles in. Most cars are like this, believe it or not.

As stated, the temperature of the air trickling in is dependent on the setting on the ECC, regardless if it's on or off. In fact, you can change the temperature of the air trickling in by pushing the up/down arrows WITHOUT even turning the ECC on. Try it and see for yourself. MaximaK99 is correct on all accounts.

You could also RTFM.

Thank you Wizard, sometimes it seems like people just don't get it, smarten up guys! You're also right about other cars doing this. My girl's 08 RX350 does this also. But I thought it was only cars with electronic climate control that did this. By the way Wizard I saw the upgrades you did to your interior, very nice.

Where in this thread did anyone say that hitting the recirculation button, and turning the fan off would fix what you are calling a problem? The fan is off already, youre not using the AC or heater. Oh and it's your car sucking in fumes that are going into your cabin and damaging your brain which is why youre still not understanding.

does some Physician Telephone Consultation "Specialist" want to fight?

--- my original post......where i said
"soooo.....turning recirculation on and the fan off keeps all air from blowing in. If i turn it off, air blows in." --- which corrects the "problem"..as in, ive driven down the road, pushed the button with the fan off..and no flow(do i need to spell it out more...maybe im being vague?). It wasn't an argument.....just something I noticed and thought was strange.

Also,...
Where would the a/c suck in fumes? Unless....OHhhh ....Yeah, you're right, I did this exhaust mod to save my heater. I actually reroute my exhaust fumes right into the cabin....just reusing that heat energy..like those new energy efficient water heaters.

No Stephen, why would I want to fight with someone who carries a toy snake in his car? Besides, the point that you had made in your original post never came across as an arguement to me. If anything I was just clarifying your statement to let you know that there was nothing wrong with your car to begin with. If anything you're the one who started with your "sucking" remarks, when I tried to compliment The Wizard on his interior upgrades. But I'm not going to argue with you because then we would both come off looking like fools.
