Very strange clutch problem-PLEASE READ

So here's the problem:
The clutch depressed just fine
Slave cylinder is full
When you depress the clutch the fork coming out of the transmission moves freely with no snags
It goes into all gears (including reverse) just fine

BUT when you have it in gear and release the clutch NOTHING happens... There are no strange noises, no grinds, nothing.
It basically feels like it's stuck in neutral!

Someone drove the car for a night and came back with this problem.
My first guess is that the clutch is 110% shot, but even if it blew up or shattered, or melted, or anything like that it would still be making noises and effect the transmission when depressing the clutch or moving it in and out of gear... so I have NO clue!

Please help!

This happen on a Honda I did a motor swap on several years ago. If the speedo still moves like you are going 100mph going through the gears, but no move, its the output shaft on the tranny. Time for a swap or rebuild.

Any symptoms prior to this? Clutch slipping? So the car has this problem from time to time, or doesn't move at all?

It's never done anything similar to this before, it's a fresh tranny that was rebuilt maybe 15k ago, spec clutch, fidanza flywheel. The speedo is actually disconnected right now (long story), but is there any other way to determine if its the output besides speedo?

Could also be the drivers axle is popped out of the tranny just enough not to engage.

Anyone else have any ideas? I'd hate to take this to the shop with no clue as to exactly what's caused the problem... Thanks for the input though!

something broke, somehow. maybe you didn't hear it or see it, but for this to have happened, something went wrong. does the car drive at all? i'd say your clutch is gone. the friction disk sounds like it's not there anymore. why did someone else have your car ... and did they know how to drive it? my guess is they raced someone. sorry .... hope you get it figured out.

It could definitely be an axel either it popped out of the tranny or snapped this has happened to me on my accord Many years ago on the parkway the gears still shifted and everything like you said no sounds but when it was jacked up onto the tow truck I noticed oil leaking out of the tranny and sure enough the axel was not re-installed properly after clutch replacement and it popped out of the tranny.

The car does not drive at all. It starts up, idles fine, revs smoothly, shifts through all gears without a problem. No grinding noises whatsoever. Even if the clutch is gone, I would imagine at least a MINOR noise would be present?

Thanks again

I'll try to jack the car up this evening and see if that is the problem- I appreciate the input as it is a definite possibility, and hopefully it's this rather than a ruined clutch!

It could be a completely worn clutch disk facing. Wouldn't make any noises, but it would certainly take some time to get there...and you would notice slipping along the way.

Changed out a clutch on a SW2 once that was exactly like that; not a shred of clutch material to be found, short of the amount lumped up on the inside of the bellhousing.

Well, I took a look under the car, and there is a bit of leakage under it, but I haven't had a chance to jack it up to figure out exactly what's there (it was at night). We should have this thing figured out by the end of the week. Thanks again for all the input guys.

sounds like an axle to me... prob slipped out or broke? they are very hard to break though wthout noticing. Can you shift though gears without depressing the clutch? just do it lightly until resistence is felt. That way you don't grind any gears. output shaft could be it like the others said but seems unlikely...

if ur seeing a leak it prob is the axle... hopefully for ur sake it is though cause there only 80 bucks and a 3-4 hour job at most to replace both. Hopefully its not teh tranni. That will cost a pretty penny and labor will be very pricey.
