Why can i start my car with no key??

Has anybody ever had this problem? i was trying to program my remote and i could not get the hazards to flash after inserting the key 6 times in 10 seconds. i soon realized my ignition was no aknowledging my key. so i stuck a different key in like 1/4 inch and turned. sure enough it started. Dont these keys have chips in them????
