Cutting out Pre-cats and welding on straight pipes

Instead of getting a Y pipe, cant i have my welder to cut out the precats and modify a pipe, then weld it on to the stock pipe? It might actually be easier than getting out the old pipe becaue all of the bolts on my manifold are rusted.

i cant imagine that being easier in any possible way.. this is probably why your not getting a good response on here.. check out the how2 section in the maximadriver.com site under y-pipe install. its a pretty simple procedure

Me and Brian installed my Y-pipe today and it was certainly nothing I'd pay to have done. Took us like an hour and a half, even with some complications. And having a custom one made is just crazy talk in my mind... if you are going to pay someone to do something pay them to put on a real y pipe, not have them jury rig some ghetto pipe.

the problem your having is the rusted manifold bolts that lead to the downpipe?? do some research online for some rust eating solvents that u could use, once u get the bolts off or out , replace them with new stainless studs. they would last forever. it would be tough to have the y-pipe welded if you cant get it off the car, good luck
