Interior light probs need advice

Alright well first issue I had was the right door light. When I got the car it was burned out so I decided to put in led's instead. Well that side turns brighter when the door closes instead of turns off so I have to just leave it disconnected. Next prob is my ignition light. I put in a blue led and now it wont turn off ever. On top of that my dome light now will not shut off either I had to switch it off. The only damn lights that work right now are my drivers side door and the map lights. I don't understand what has happen. If any of my wires were inverted then the leds would of light up. I solder everything and use electrical tape. I don't understand why my driverside door light works fine if the rest don't. I could really use some input here before I pull my hair out on this one.

sounds like your soldering may have done something to your BCM. should have gotten plug n play leds for the doors dome and keyring.

+1 on the BCM. The BCM is the Body Control Module. I did the same thing with the led in the keyring, except I saw and heard a spark when I was installing it with the battery still connected (yes, very very stupid)...I'd shut the doors and the interior lights wouldn't shut off automatically anymore. There's really no fix unless you send your BCM to a repair company. These things are $800 at a dealer . Look around for a spare someone might be selling.

I have a spare BCM for a 97 and a 96. the BCM controls certain functions such as lighting, alarm and who knows what else. It is the black box that sits behind and underneath your radio right above the silver transmission computer.

Since I moved shipping will be different. and paypal is now an option. Again, you should pull yours out first to make sure the numbers match up. Not sure if the different packages have different BCMs (SE GLE etc).

Are both door lights working differently or just the LED one? I tried to add LEDs to one of my door lights and the same thing happened, but the leds in the door are on when the door is open and get brighter when i close the door (the original bulb on the other side still works normal.) But the weird part is that when i tested the LEDs with a 9 volt battery, they lit up brighter than when they're hooked up to the car...

driverside works great with led's installed passenger side gets brighter when door is closed. I even switched the 2 too see if it was my solder job but it wasn't. I have a big feeling that it is my BCM sadly.

hmm... well i only have one side done right now, so i dunno what the other side will be like when leds are installed. I may have the same problem as you, im not really sure yet. I think im gonna make another board for the other side to see if it happens on both. I still dont understand why the LEDs were brighter with a 9 volt battery than with the car's electrical which has at least 12 volts.

well thats the thing, i bought them off ebay, and for the specs, it says Forward Voltage (V) : 1.8 to 2.8

it doesn't give an exact number...

what that means is you can use any voltage between the 2 #'s the higher the voltage the brighter it will be. Are you using resistors or are you running them in series? If you run them in a series of 6 then it should work fine for your ride. Keep in mind the longer leg is positive. Just go + to - to + to - 6 in a row and you wont need a resistor. You could do up your dome light with 2 series running in parallel.

This is what you do. Take the leds out and put the regular bulb back in (if you have an extra socket) LED's should be 3 maximum when running parallel, so you should be using a resistor. If the BCM is still working and the normal bulb works ok, go to superbrightleds.com and buy the color wide angle LED you need and plug it in. it is prewired to the proper resistance and plug-n-play.

well these
are the LEDs I'm using, and i have 4 wired in a series with a 1/2 watt, 10 ohm resistor. They go nice and bright with the 9 volt, but not good at all with the car's electrical current.

well mine are in series of 2 with a resistor. Trust me I wired everything right I have been doing this for a long time to everything I own from my modded xbox I made up to previous cars. While I put a multimeter on the ignition plug to check polarity I slipped and it did spark yes it was my bad I should of just cut the harness and then put it on a multimeter to be safe but I tried to take a shortcut and now I have to pay.

try them with the setup I said unless u want to use less of them with a resistor. Just find a resistor calculator and play with the voltage within the led ranges.

yea but it still doesn't explain why it's brighter with less voltage. it's got me stumped and i dunno what to do...

alright, so i've come to the conclusion that i must have messed up my bcm also...

i tried the led board on the side that was still working properly, and it worked fine, and i tried the light bulb on the side that wasn't working and it didn't work...

so i'll either need to find a new bcm or just go without a light in my door for a while... haha
