Car back online - Only took like 8 weeks

My car is on 4-wheels and running today. I fixed the leaking axle seal issue today. Turns out that I was given the wrong seal. I figured a way to change the seal without removing the transmission.

Basically I used the screwdriver to pry the old seal out, but when doing it, I made sure that I didn't push the screwdriver against seal surface on the tranny. After careful prying I removed the seal. Then with a socket that has the roughly the same diameter as the outer portion of the seal, I ran a bunch of long extensions out the path of the passenger half-shaft to a place where you can use a mallet. Basically I position the seal and the socket in place..holding as straight as possible. Then I had my dad gently tap the end. Taking our time we got the seal in nice and even. After putting about 20 miles on the new clutch there isn't a single drop of fluid coming out.

However one thing is certainly different. The clutch pedal is certainly different. A lot lighter...in some cases, I wonder if it's too light. I went with a yellow performance pressure plate from clutchnet. I did it more for ease of driveability because the 1x red was just a tad bit stiff to be driving in traffic on a regular basis. I have adjustments to make on the pedal. It seems like I have a ton of free play...like an inch or two. With the behaivor of this pedal, it makes shifting quite jerky.

Otherwise the new trans is awesome. It doesn't make any noise with the exception of reverse. The shifts are smooth with clear notches when engaging gear. 20 miles on clutch so far, 980miles to go before I really start to boost again.

1000 miles of break in is overkill IMO. you could cut that in half unless 90% of your driving is highway. i hope that is enough clutch for the torque that car makes.

What tranny did you decide to go with?

I hope the pressure plate can hold too. I still have 6-puck disc like what is on the car before...so the disc can hold it...but not sure about the pressure plate. Most of my driving is city driving, with the weekend having some highway driving. However I figure I would make the sacrifice just to have ease of driveability, especially since my wife will begin driving the car as well. If it turns out it isn't good enough, I'll probably go back. It's likely a worthwhile experiment.

Well it turned out the 90k I30T tranny that was the cheapest was an automatic. I ended up going with 79k 98 I30T tranny that was local. Spent way more than I wanted, but at this point I was trying to get the car running again because the wife's Spec V was too cramped for the family (baby car seat literally rest against the front seats...no warm fuzzy there).

i had play in my pedal after I replaced a leaky hose to the slave cylinder. had to bleed the clutch system several times. then I gave up. a couple weeks later it got better. I think it just had a bubble that worked its way out naturally. good luck

Maybe it'll get better. I do have spare slave cylinder that came with the new trans...but I'm not sure if that will make much of a difference. This car has had this sort of feel with the clutch thru much of the past too... I also think part of my problem is the lighten flywheel. Engine revs go up and down pretty fast too.
