Window switch install - such a success!!

Man, me and J_Bryan did our window switch swap out to blue led's this weekend. It was such a success! [hopefully J will jump into this post and drop some pics for us] I think we started at like 8pm saturday night and completed both his and my car window switches by...was it about 10:30-11?? I think so. Once we got the hang of the positive negative sides of the led's and the soldering, it started to fly!
As we expected, the drivers door was the most difficult/mind challenging. And b/c we were checking every led by running back out to the car after one was done, we could fix any mess up we (more like I) did. lol. The Led's we got were from a company called Hosfelt on www.hosfelt.com. They had a 250mcd rating (dark blue) and are only $.99 a piece. If your looking for the real bright blue ones, Radio Shack has them for like $4 a piece I think. Hosfelt has them too with a way wider range of brightness/dimness ratings (mcd) from the 250mcd to about 6000mcd! J_Bryan went with the all blue all around. I did red in the passenger doors and 3 red 3 blue in the drivers door (passenger windows red [3] driver switch, door lock, window lock blue [3]) We did have a case of a lazy switch in each of our drivers doors after we were done. I think J was gonna fix his Saturday night, I didn't notice how prevalent mine was until I rolled my driver window down on Sunday and couldn't roll it back up!! lol. I'll let J jump in and add to my story if there's any left! lol, It's a fun mod but make sure you have 2 people!! lol, it's much much easier!!!

Hey congrats on the install. No, I won't forget you. I'd be curious to see the blue put out by the Hosfelts vs. the Radioshacks. Cool, keep your eyes on the road and not on your window switchs. HAHA

If you can't wait to see what it looks like go to Maximadriver.com and go to the how2 section then click on how to install blue leds in window - or something like that. They have detailed instructions as well as pics.

Checked out the site for the LED lights got a question does the led have to be 12V ? instead of 3.5 VDC or is it okay ?

It needs to be 3-4 volts. There are resistors soldered onto the board that the leds are hooked to that 'eat' up the other 8 volts. If you use a 12 volt led, if it lights it will be extremely dim. Use the 3-4 volt led. Good luck. Make sure you observe polarity. The led will only work one way in a circuit.

I used a 5 volt 300mcd blue LED from Radio Shack for all the switches in my front doors (Radio Shack part # 276-311). Looks really good, and I haven't had any problems. Unfortunately, I can't do my rear switches yet 'cause the '97's rear LEDs are totally different from the fronts (they have 4 prongs, and are super small square things that remind me of miniaturized computer processors). If anyone has the solution for them, let us who have '97's know.
