Dropping tranny-maintenance suggestions
So in a few weeks Im gonna be dropping the tranny on my 5spd (again
) to replace the timing ring. Somehow the timing ring got all messed up and now the car barely starts and has hesitations while driving. Anyways I would like suggestions on other things I can replace while Im down there. Alot are gonna say clutch, but I just did that in march and there are only about 30k on it so I wont do that. I was thinking more along the lines of doing the rear main seal for sure and im interested in other suggestions. Now is the oil pump in that area too? Should I replace that? My engine has 170k on it. Thanks.

Call a transmission shop that does manual trannys and have them crack it open for a serious inspection. Refill with good gear oil.
RMS's leak but leaks don't explode and leave you stranded. If your tranny internals start going, and you don't catch it, you'll frag the whole thing. Spending $75 to have a pro poke around at it is a great investment.

after the nightmare that was my rear main seal replacement, I sure as **** wouldn't go doing one unless it were leaking. if it ain't broke, don't fix it is the saying that applies in this case.
