The Dr. says my car is sick and old.

Just received the check-up on my 97SE MT (122k mi):
1 - Brakes: Need rotors and pads.
2 - Clutch: Functional but going.
3 - CV Boots: Torn to shreads.

Considering I am going to keep the car, looking for suggestions for parts suppliers and approximate costs I can be expecting. Any feedback would be appreciated:

1 - Thinking of new pads, drilled or slotted rotors, and braided lines. Not upgrading size or anything like that, looking for 4 rotors (running 17" G35 coupe wheels). Would pick up the lines and pads locally.

2 - I have seen various aftermarket clutch suggestions over the years I have been on here, want to know what works well at a good price.

3 - Will do this locally.

Thanks all, appreciate the assist.

Just get brembo blanks for the rotors. Unless you are going for the look of the drill/slotted, then dont pay the price for them, there is no performance difference between blanks and the drilled and/or slotted.

Not sure on clutch, Im an AT.

IMO, get some raxles. You wont ever have to worry about them again.

I'd say go with a 5th gen. clutch, otherwise ditto to what MOHFpro90 said.

just so you know, those brembo blanks rust like a ****.

i ended up getting the ATE slotted rotors for like 65 each. they are coated, and not with that ****ty gold look either, with matte silver.

Drilled or slotted rotors are a waste of $$ for everyday driving.....

I recommend you get some Brembo blanks and Hawk HPS pads from the Group Deal Forum. Install yourself. Done!

As for clutches, you will get so many different opinions your head will
Personally, I have an Exedy and it's great FWIW.

My car is still driven about 4 times per week and I'm at 161k......

CV's replaced at roughly exactly your mileage....was not torn to shreds but leaking. I didn't do it myself because at the time, a coworker got one out in 15 min. but could never get the other side done and he got towed. I blew $400??

Brakes have never been touched by anyone but me, always OEM pads. Now, the area swept has gotten smaller and smaller, still never any pulsation! But I ordered 4 OEM rotors 30% off no tax no shipping, they were I think in the 264 range for all 4. Original pads of course, same deal as above.

Clutch still has no problem. My wife busted a fog lamp and I finally got the replacement $40 in....2/3 bolts sheared off due to rust. I was gonna do the screw extractor routine and get out the right angle drill adapter, but I said F that. I used a #12 sheet metal screw which got the bracket in tightly--there was a hole drilled through the bracket and the bumper itself. Gotta love the $40 aftermarket vs the $185 list OEM. Even at 30% off, it's a waste. They look identical!

Good luck.

for torn cv boost. its best to just go ahead and get new axles. who knows how long those boots have been torn, and all the road debris and rocks that have accumulated in there.

You can get them repacked and new boots, but usually that costs as much as new axles, so why not get new axles and not have to worry for maybe another 100k. I recommended raxles, a little pricey but its quality, its worth it, great people, and great service.

if your stock, or N/A with various bolt ons, I've heard everyone who got the 5th gen clutch kit (2000-2001) loved it. I myself never used it. when from a stock clutch to spec stage 2.

advice for rotors and pads are great, look into those.

your cars not sick and old! it just needs its yearly physical!

for rotors and pads, just get whatever. I rock the autozone cheap ****, I painted the rotors tho so they dont rust. (i know i will get hated on for this, but hey 2 rear rotors and rear brake pads for a total of $30.)

for a clutch, get a 5th gen OEM clutch unless you have mad power mods. if you are doing SC/turbo/n20 then you need something stronger but only then. I love my 5th gen clutch.

for cv boots, get some raxle axles.

I know some of this is repeated but im just adding my thoughts.

Thanks All.
Going with Brembo blanks, Axxis Metal pads, raxles, and a OEM Exedy clutch. My clutch is slipping a little, and two of my brake wheels are frozen. Not looking for 100k, just long enough that I can pick up an Audi S4 and retire the Max (40K?). Thanks everyone for the suggestions!!!

What made you choose Axxis Pads over Hawk HPS pads? Price? Availability? or?

Dont listen to these guys! They obviously dont know what theyre talking about, i picked up these babies off ebay. They even came with an extra slot for more ventilation!

This is how they looked after 18 months of mild daily driving in NY.
